Callian offers several distinct points of interest to consider when planning a hotel stay: a hilltop Village de Caractère, historic buildings, views of the surrounding mountain ranges and religious traditions. There are also leisure activities at nearby Lac de Saint-Cassien. Before your trip, you can weigh up whether local history, an annual festival or activities on the water should be the main focus of your stay.

Lanes, Château and Local History

Flower-adorned lanes wind around the Château; a moss-covered cascade on the central square is another distinctive feature of the village. The medieval Château is also one of the stops on the Circuit patrimoine. The lanes, building and cascade show different aspects of the village: the winding layout of its paths, its historic building and a prominent square.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Roses dates from the 10th century and stands on a former Gallo-Roman settlement site. It is the oldest building in Callian.

A Heritage Trail and Its Buildings

The Circuit patrimoine de Callian is a self-guided heritage trail. It links the medieval Château and spiral-shaped lanes with the Chapelle des Pénitents, the Lavoir Saint-Roch, La Cascade and the church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. The route brings together several distinct stops that showcase the area’s heritage.

The Chapelle des Pénitents is a restored former 12th-century Romanesque castle chapel that now hosts exhibitions and concerts. The church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption was built in 1685. Its bell tower is covered with glazed tiles; the church also features restored 19th-century stained-glass windows, altarpieces and religious artworks. The buildings thus reflect different periods and architectural details.

A separate archaeological landmark is the Cippe romain in Callian: a small Roman tombstone whose inscription documents the influential Coelius family. Those interested in the story behind a single object will find a different perspective here than at the chapels and churches: the focus is on the tombstone and its inscription.

Religious Traditions and Views

The Chapelle Saint-Donat is a pilgrimage and devotional site with votive offerings. Festive events and pilgrimages have been documented there since 1517. The annual FĂŞte de la Saint-Donat takes place on the first weekend of August; the exact programme may change. If this date matters for your trip, check the specific event dates before making plans.

There are also two different places from which to enjoy the views. From the Esplanade de Callian, you can see Montauroux, the Tanneron and Estérel ranges, and the start of the Massif des Maures. The terraced Cimetière de Callian overlooks the Siagne plain and offers a wide view of the Estérel massif. The graves of Christian Dior (1905–1957) and Catherine Dior (1917–2008) are in the cemetery. Catherine Dior became a producer of fragrant flowers in Callian.

Leisure Activities at Lac de Saint-Cassien

In the area around Callian, Lac de Saint-Cassien offers opportunities for swimming, pedal boating, canoeing, boat trips and fishing. Conditions and facilities may vary. The lake complements the historic sites with a range of activities on the water; which ones suit your plans depends on whether you would rather swim, use a boat yourself, join a boat trip or go fishing.

There are several different options to consider when planning your trip: the historic village centre and its buildings, the views from the esplanade and cemetery, the traditions surrounding Saint-Donat, or leisure activities at the lake. These distinctions can help you choose Callian as a destination based on your interests and plan your stay accordingly.
