La Motte – Vineyards, Village Market and History
Accommodation in La Motte
La Motte lies in an extensive wine-growing landscape crossed by the Nartuby. Village life, wine and historic sites offer different ways to shape your stay. When planning, you can decide whether you are particularly interested in discovering the market, the village’s history or outdoor activities.
Wine Country and Village Market
The Marché Provençal is held year-round every Friday in the village square. Local producers offer their products there. Its regular day of the week makes it easy to plan a stay that includes a visit to the market.
Les Vignerons de Saint Romain is also based in La Motte: The winery is a member of the Route des vins de Provence, offers free wine tastings and sells products from the regional terroir. A visit therefore focuses on both tasting and regional produce. If you are interested in wine and the landscape, these offerings add a direct connection to local products to your experience of La Motte’s wine-growing area.
Village Walks and Historic Sites
A walk from the main square leads to the Tour de l’Horloge. From there, you can enjoy views of the surrounding landscape.
The Église Saint Victor was built on the remains of a Romanesque priory. The church contains a gilded wooden altarpiece dedicated to Saint Quinis and listed as a historic monument. This building brings together the priory’s earlier history and a particularly notable item of church furnishing.
The Mémorial du Mitan commemorates the airborne troops’ involvement and the beginning of Operation “Dragoon” during the Allied landings in Provence on 15 August 1944. It is located on the D 47 towards Bagnols-en-Forêt. Check local access conditions before setting out.
Waterfall, Hiking Trails and Activities
The Saut du Capelan waterfall is 35 metres high and is located 500 metres from the village of La Motte. As local access conditions may change, check them before your visit.
Four free, marked hiking trails run through vineyards and woodland at Château des Demoiselles. The Sentier vigneron is 2.1 kilometres long, the Sentier boisé 3.8 kilometres, the Sentier de l’Endre 6.8 kilometres and the Sentier des Roches rouges 8 kilometres. The different trail lengths help you choose a route to suit the distance you want to cover. Mountain biking, quad biking, buggy rides and off-road scooter rides are also available on the grounds.
Events for Your Stay
A Galoubet festival is highlighted as a spring event; a children’s carnival is also among La Motte’s featured events. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these occasions, check the specific dates in advance. The market, held every Friday year-round, provides a regular weekly point of reference. The planning considerations therefore differ: the day of the week matters for market visits, while events depend on their specific dates.
