La Bâtie-Neuve combines hiking and mountain biking with historical connections, artistic installations and local production.

Hiking and mountain biking

In La Bâtie-Neuve, hiking and mountain biking trails lead from the town centre up to the summit areas. Trail conditions may vary, so take them into account when planning your trip.

One specific route is the Balade de Montreviol: it starts in La Bâtie-Neuve and is a moderately difficult 6.9-kilometre circular hike. The route offers views of the Gapençais basin, the Charance and Céüse mountains, Mont Colombis and the Chapeau de Napoléon. Its landscape includes forests and pastures, as well as wide paths and steep trails. Trail conditions and views may vary.

The Forêt du Sapet has several hiking trails that are accessible to everyone. A puzzle trail starts at the Maison forestière du Sapet in La Bâtie-Neuve. Access and trail conditions depend on the weather and the season; check conditions before setting out. The north-western part of the Forêt domaniale du Sapet belongs to the “Piolit-Pic de Chabrières” Natura 2000 network.

Heritage and art

The Chapelle Saint-Pancrace dates in its present form from the 16th century and replaced an older church. It served as the parish church until 1707. The chapel overlooks the old cemetery and was renovated in 2009. Services are held there for funerals; if you plan to visit the chapel specifically, check its current use in advance.

The route of the medieval fortifications is also preserved as a small path. The gardens of the houses on Grande Rue open onto it, and the path makes for a peaceful walk. The Parcours du Lézard connects local heritage with artistic installations, including frescoes, mosaic benches and photographs.

A dolmen dating from around 2000 BC bears witness to the region’s first land clearers. It is on private property and access is not permitted. In 2009, the municipality had a reconstruction erected at the roundabout near the college.

Local products and theatre

Confiturerie Jean-Marc CHATELAIN makes jams, compotes, juices, chutneys and coulis. Its offerings also include product tastings and a boutique. If you plan to attend a tasting or visit the boutique, check the visitor arrangements in advance, as they may change.

Festi’Théâtre, La Bâtie-Neuve’s theatre festival, returns in September to Hall No. 750; its return for September 2026 is confirmed. A play was performed every evening, including performances for young audiences.
