Manteyer offers several different points of interest for a trip: a cycling route and trails, historic buildings, and the Marais de Manteyer. Would you like to include a cycling route, explore cultural heritage, or discover a wetland? The features of the area offer different highlights for these kinds of travel interests.

Cycling route and trails

The Montée de Céüze is an 11.0-kilometre cycling route that ends at the former Céüze resort in Manteyer. Its length and endpoint give you two concrete reference points for planning a cycling trip. Access conditions at the endpoint may vary, so check local conditions before setting off.

The Col des Guérins–Lac Pelleautier stage offers another point of reference: it follows the D 18 through Manteyer. When visibility is good, the route offers views of Tête de Combe Noire, the Céüse resort and the Gapençais valley; visibility depends on the weather. The Église de Manteyer is a place to visit along the route. Check the access arrangements before visiting, as they may change.

The municipality has walking, cycling and horse-riding trails. These include routes from the marsh to Fays, as well as routes via Calandri or the Combenoire forest. The options offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors. Route conditions and accessibility may change seasonally; take this into account when planning and check local conditions before setting off.

Château, church and chapel

The Château de Manteyer dates from the 14th century. Its rectangular shape and two round towers give the building a clearly defined form. A gallery on large round-arched arcades connects it to a similar building. The description highlights several architectural features: the floor plan, the towers and the open passage supported by arcades.

The Église de Manteyer houses a painting from around 1640, probably attributed to Antoine Bouvier de Digne. The Chapelle Saint-Roch de Manteyer is situated below the village on the banks of the Buëch and probably dates from the 16th century. During its restoration in the 1960s, a square was laid out in front of the chapel. This made it possible to hold an open-air mass on 16 August, the saint’s feast day. Manteyer thus offers different aspects of local history: a 14th-century building, a painting with a probable attribution, and a chapel with a tradition of use on the saint’s feast day.

The Marais de Manteyer

The Marais de Manteyer lies within the municipalities of Manteyer and La Roche-des-Arnauds. It covers almost 50 hectares of reed beds and wet meadows. The size of the area and these landscape features offer a different focus from the buildings in the village or the routes mentioned above. Most of the marsh is covered by a prefectural order protecting its biotope. If you plan activities in sensitive areas, take this protection status into account and check local conditions in advance.
