Discover Aspremont
Accommodation in Aspremont
Aspremont combines a historic village setting with cultural landmarks and the river landscape of the Buëch. When choosing your destination, you can explore village architecture and churches, the loop trail to the Château, or the river as a natural attraction. Each focus offers a different way to experience the area.
Village Architecture and Building History
Aspremont’s old village center is characterized by houses built of river pebbles and andronnes. These features add a distinctive architectural dimension to the village setting, alongside the churches and the Château. If you pay particular attention to a place’s architectural history when planning a trip, both the village center and the historic religious buildings are interesting subjects to explore.
Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens combines architectural history with cultural significance: the church is a tourist attraction and hosts cultural events. Its central structure dates from the 12th century. Above the entrance is a Romanesque-style round arch. The church was partially rebuilt in the 17th century, when the side chapel was also added. The building thus brings together a core dating from the 12th century and alterations from the 17th century.
Notre-Dame de Suane offers a different historical perspective. Since the Middle Ages, it has been a heavily frequented pilgrimage site and is considered the mother church of the Aspremont parish. It thus complements the architectural history of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens with the history of pilgrimage. From Notre-Dame de Suane, the panorama extends across the Thuoux plain and the Dévoluy.
The Château Loop Trail and Its Views
The “Du Buëch aux vestiges du château” loop trail connects Aspremont with the Château d’Aspremont. There are two ways to access it: via Rue du Reclus or from the village, beside the bar. The loop trail can be visited year-round, free of charge and independently, without a guide. Check conditions before your trip. Along the way, the trail crosses the Andronne de la Cure to the gardens at the edge of the village.
The Château d’Aspremont stands on a rocky spur overlooking the valleys. Another viewpoint is on the hill behind the Château: from there, the 360-degree view extends across the Buëch Valley. Notre-Dame de Suane and the hill by the Château therefore offer different panoramas—across the Thuoux plain and the Dévoluy, and across the Buëch Valley, respectively.
The Buëch at Aspremont
At Aspremont, the Buëch is an alpine river with Mediterranean influences. Gravel banks and several intertwined channels shape its course. The river is also known for its trout and offers anglers suitable fishing conditions. Aspremont’s natural attractions therefore include both the river’s distinctive form and fishing as a specific activity. If you plan your stay around your interests, you can consider these riverside attractions separately from the historic buildings and the loop trail.
