If you are looking for a hotel in Nersac, you can plan your stay around a theme: the buildings reveal different periods of construction and uses, while the paths along the Charente put walks and nature in the spotlight. Whichever of these aspects interests you most will give your stay a clear focus.

Construction phases at the church and château

The Église Saint-Pierre was originally built in the Romanesque style; additional chapels were added during the Gothic period, changing the building. It therefore brings together two clearly identifiable construction phases. The Château de la Foucaudie offers a different perspective: it is located in the center of Nersac and became the town hall in 1952. Its conversion into a town hall adds another use of the building to its architectural history.

On the east façade of the Château de la Foucaudie is an 18th-century curtain wall, framed by two round towers built at the end of the 17th century. A curtain wall is a connecting wall between flanking towers. Here, the towers therefore date from an earlier construction phase than the section of wall. Those interested in architecture can thus consider not only the overall view but also the interplay of different periods of construction.

Fleurac: Location and visiting arrangements

The Château de Fleurac stands on a rocky promontory on the left bank of the Charente. Its setting is therefore different from that of the Château de la Foucaudie in the town center. Visits to the Château de Fleurac can be arranged with the owners; confirm arrangements before you arrive.

The Moulin de Fleurac is located in the hamlet of Fleurac in Nersac. In 1983, the General Council of the Charente department bought the mill and converted it into a paper museum. Alongside architecture, the history of a building’s cultural reuse is therefore another specific subject that Nersac has to offer travelers with an interest in culture.

Walks and scenery along the Charente

The Coulée Verte is a walking and cycling route along the Charente River that leads to Nersac. The Nersac section runs along the left bank for 3.5 kilometers to the Pont de la Meure. Part of the route is more unpaved, or suitable for more challenging terrain. Trail conditions can change seasonally; check them before your walk. This gives you both a specific distance and information about the surface to help you plan.

The route passes through wet meadows and riverside woodland. These habitats provide space for birds, amphibians, insects, and small mammals. The route can therefore be enjoyed not only as a path along the river, but also as an opportunity to observe the different habitats along the banks.

The ĂŽles de Fleurac are connected by footpaths and wooden walkways. Walkers can use them to cross between the riverbanks from Linars to Nersac. At the site of the Moulin de Fleurac, a footbridge also connects the bank by the mill to the ĂŽles de Fleurac; it is open to the public for walks. As local conditions may change, it is advisable to check the situation before your visit.
