Le Perrier: Nature and culture in the Marais Breton Vendéen
Accommodation in Le Perrier
Le Perrier lies in the heart of the Marais Breton Vendéen. Nature, named trails and cultural activities shape the themes of a stay. Ninety percent of Le Perrier lies within a Natura 2000 area; the wildlife and plant life of Le Perrier are exceptional.
Nature and trails in Le Perrier
One specific place for a walk is the Jardin des senteurs. It includes a footpath and a wooden boardwalk along a planted artificial water channel. You can enjoy an immersive walk there. The Sentier des roseaux is a named hiking trail in Le Perrier, and the Boucle des Yoles is a named cycling route. If you plan to use either of these routes, check the current conditions before setting out.
There is also a connection for pedestrians and cyclists. It runs from the Sentier des Halles to the Centre culturel Le Marô, passing by the Jardin de la cure and the École du Marais. This identifies both endpoints as well as some notable points along the route.
Church, architecture and culture
The Église Saint Sauveur du Perrier combines art with a turbulent history of construction. Eleven stained-glass windows designed by Louis Mazetier were installed in 1943. During the Vendée Wars, the church was badly damaged and remained reduced to its four walls until 1810. Reconstruction began that year. Guided tours of the church are planned for summer; visits can be arranged on request during the rest of the year. Check the dates before you arrive.
Le Signal is housed in two former 19th-century longhouses typical of the Marais Breton Vendéen. In summer, Le Signal hosts activities such as horse-drawn carriage rides by Déambul; exhibitions and other events take place there throughout the year. The Espace culturel also organizes exhibitions, a literary prize, readings for children and gatherings. The specific dates of individual events may vary.
Activities and seasonal events
Déambul combines a walk with a subsequent ride in a Yole: the experience starts at Le Signal, continues on foot through the town to the Étier de la Taillée, and then carries on in a Yole. The boat trip also recalls an earlier mode of transport in the Marais. Residents used Yoles when their land was flooded in winter. As reservations and seasonal operation should be checked, confirm the relevant details in advance.
For the 2026 season, Les Escapades de Marius in Le Perrier offers outdoor escape games and tablet-based discovery tours for families or friends. In July and August, there are free concerts and performances on Tuesday evenings; walks at dusk are offered on Friday evenings. These walks are a separate activity and are not described as Yole rides.
The recurring Fête du terroir celebrates the arrival of autumn and seasonal flavors. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date of that year's edition.
