Barbechat: Nature, Leisure and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Barbechat
Barbechat combines a large leisure area on the Divatte, a circular walking route through agricultural and wine-growing landscapes, and traces of different periods. A landscaped pond adds to the village centre. If you are looking for a hotel in Barbechat, these specific features can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.
Landscape along the Divatte
The Perthuis Churin leisure area stretches along the Divatte across 22 hectares of hilly, wooded terrain. The Circuit de la Berrière circular route follows the banks of the Divatte and the steep slopes of Perthuis Churin. Its landscape includes preserved agricultural and wine-growing areas as well as shaded sunken lanes. These offer two distinct options for planning your visit: the area, with its size and terrain, and a circular route whose character is shaped by its course and the landscapes it passes through.
Leisure area and activities
The leisure area is open free of charge all year round; check local information before travelling there. Facilities include children's play areas, picnic areas with barbecue facilities, and a shelter. There is also a fitness trail, as well as Bi-Cross and mountain bike trails. This variety allows for different plans, from a picnic to exercise on the trails mentioned.
The “Sur les traces du chat rouge” (In the Footsteps of the Red Cat) activity trail is also located here and is available through the Baludik app. As digital availability may change, check the app before your visit.
Architectural and cultural history
The Château de la Berrière is an 18th-century building and was partially rebuilt around 1800. The grand salon and library feature neoclassical wood panelling with ornamental decorations. The château includes a seigneurial chapel dating from the 15th century; it retains reused stained glass from the 16th century. Its architectural history and features therefore span several clearly distinct periods. The chapel is older than the reused stained glass.
The remains of the Chapelle Sainte Magdeleine stand at Perthuis Churin in Barbechat and date from the 12th or 13th century. A Gallic tumulus is located beside the remains. These remains and the tumulus add another, much earlier-dated site to the history of the château.
In the village centre is the Mare du Soleil Levant, a fully landscaped pond. A small square and walkways offer visitors a place to relax by the water.
