In Saint-Aignan-Grandlieu, you can choose from walks around the municipality, birdwatching and cultural activities. When planning your trip, the different route lengths, seasonal conditions at Lac de Grand Lieu and the recurring “Balade des Curiosités” are particularly relevant.

Walks for Different Interests

The “L’Hermitage” trail is 18 kilometres long and is suitable for hikers and cyclists. It takes about five hours on foot and around two hours by bike. It offers an almost complete exploration of the municipality. The times are estimates; seasonal trail conditions may vary.

A much shorter cultural walk is the “Balade des Curiosités”: this cultural walk through Saint-Aignan-Grandlieu is about five kilometres long and takes place every two years. Unlike “L’Hermitage”, it focuses on culture, while the longer route explores the municipality. Dates and programmes vary with each edition; check the details for the relevant edition before planning your visit.

The “Les Halbrans” trail offers another way to explore the area: it leads to the village of L’Halbrandière. There, you can take in the harbour and its protected surroundings.

Lac de Grand Lieu and Birdwatching

The “Pierres Aiguës” trail leads to a viewpoint on the shore of Lac de Grand Lieu. Along the trail, you can spot grey herons and spoonbills; opportunities to observe wildlife depend on the season and conditions.

There is an ornithological observation point at Pierre Aiguë. From there, visitors can observe herons, heron-like birds, grebes and other bird species of the lake. The observation point is seasonal, and access arrangements may change. In addition, the Pierre Aiguë site may be flooded in winter and then become inaccessible.

Access to Lac de Grand Lieu is restricted because of its protected status. Pierre Aiguë is the only access point to the lake. Take these restrictions into account when planning a visit or wildlife observation at the lake.

It is home to the Cric Crac Café, Radio Grand Lieu, activities by Ouverture Nature and an art workshop run by the Conte collective.
