Discover La Chapelle-Sur-Dun
Accommodation in La Chapelle-Sur-Dun
La Chapelle-Sur-Dun offers several ways to plan your trip: a church with a historic predecessor, gardens featuring sculptures, painting classes and two circular walking routes. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on heritage, garden art or a hike. Distances are provided for the walking routes; visits to Terre d'Accord are by appointment.
Church and Heritage
The church in La Chapelle-Sur-Dun replaces an earlier church dating from the 11th century. This means the town’s connection with the church dates back to that century. For travellers who also want to explore local history, the church is a distinct historical landmark. The buildings along Circuit N°13 offer another perspective on the area’s heritage, including manor houses, dovecotes, traditional farms and thatched houses.
Garden Art and Creative Activities
Terre d'Accord is a two-hectare, designed Atelier of the Living, divided into four gardens. The „Terre d'Accord“ art garden is home to around sixty sculptures and includes the artist’s studio. The garden design and artworks are thus both at the heart of the experience. Storytelling walks at Terre d'Accord are available by appointment for groups of five or more; independent visits to the garden are also possible by appointment. Be sure to arrange your visit in advance.
The Terre et Couleur artists’ studio offers painting classes for children and adults. If you’d like to include a class in your travel plans, check in advance whether a suitable date is available during your stay, as availability may change. The classes offer a different way to engage with art than visiting the gardens or taking a storytelling walk.
Comparing the Two Walking Routes
Circuit N°7 – Les chemins de forrières is 8.6 km long, of which 6.2 km are on paths. The route follows former Forrières paths, passing fields and running between villages. Circuit N°13 – Patrimoine de la Vallée du Dun is 7.8 km in total, with 5 km on paths. Along the way, it passes manor houses, dovecotes, traditional farms and thatched houses.
In terms of total distance, Circuit N°13 is the shorter route; Circuit N°7 has the greater distance both overall and on paths. The routes also differ in character: N°7 focuses on former field paths and villages, while N°13 passes named types of historic buildings. Route conditions and waymarking may change; check the latest information before setting out.
Park and Seasonal Visiting Conditions
Parc du Château Saint Jean is an English landscape park. Its features include a fountain, a pond, rose avenues, hydrangeas, perennials and remarkable two-hundred-year-old trees. The park was completely renovated and expanded between 1987 and 1991. In summer, only the park can be visited at Parc du Château Saint Jean. Check the opening conditions before your trip so you can take this seasonal information into account when planning.
If a visit depends on an appointment or a class date, arrange it in advance and plan your trip accordingly.
