Livaie offers travelers interested in nature and geology several specific topics to consider when planning a stay. These include the Cambrian volcanic complex of Écouves, connections to the Forêt d’Écouves and an educational trail at Cassine. There are also two nature events that ADN Livaie held on specific dates. The topics take different forms: a walk, geological points of interest and a scheduled event appeal to different interests. If you are looking for a hotel in Livaie, you can first consider whether a trail, a geological focus or an event date is important to your travel plans.

Geological sites in and around Livaie

The Cambrian volcanic complex of Écouves is designated as a surface outcrop; it lies within the municipalities of Fontenai-les-Louvets and Livaie and is publicly documented. Its location in two municipalities is important for orientation: the complex is not associated with Livaie alone. The term “surface outcrop” draws attention to a geological feature, while the name Écouves identifies the volcanic complex. This helps distinguish this geological point of interest from other local and forest references.

Several scree slopes have been inventoried in the Parc naturel régional Normandie-Maine, including Butte Chaumont and Livaie. Butte Chaumont is associated with Cuissai, Livaie, Saint-Denis-sur-Sarthon and Saint-Nicolas-des-Bois. Livaie therefore appears both as the name of a scree slope and as one of the locations associated with Butte Chaumont. These different names refer to distinct geological points of interest; they should not be conflated into a single place when finding your way around.

Forest connections and nature interests

Bois de Roche Elie lies at one end of the Forêt d’Écouves. ADN Livaie is a nature association based around the Forêt d’Écouves in the Orne department. The two names therefore refer to different things: Bois de Roche Elie is identified by its location in relation to the forest, while ADN Livaie is identified by its focus on nature and its connection to the Forêt d’Écouves. For travelers interested in nature, named forest locations thus go hand in hand with the perspective of a nature association.

There is an educational trail at Cassine, suitable for a walk with family or friends. Its educational focus sets this trail apart from nature events with a specific theme. Cassine thus complements the geological points of interest with a concrete opportunity to enjoy a walk together.

A walk or a scheduled nature event

On Sunday, March 30, 2025, ADN Livaie held an “à l’écoute des oiseaux” outing in Livaie for birdwatching. Another specific event was a forest-tracking outing on March 1, 2026, at 2 p.m. in ONF plot No. 334 on the D2 from Livaie toward Alençon; it lasted about two and a half hours. The two events had different focuses: the first was about birdwatching, the second about animal tracks in the forest. If an event is key to your trip, check ADN Livaie’s current program.

When planning, you can consider these interests separately: a walk at Cassine, the geological connections of the named sites, and nature events with a specific theme and date. Think about which focus matters to you during your stay. If you want to plan your travel dates around an event, include its date in your plans.
