If you are looking for a hotel in Saint-Cyr-La-Rosière, your trip could focus on architectural and cultural history. The Chapelle de Clémencé, the Église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte and the Prieuré de Sainte-Gauburge represent different historical sites. Also nearby are the Écomusée du Perche and two trails with their own destinations and points of interest. You can organise your interests accordingly: for example, around architecture and monument history, the heritage of the Perche, or a route through the countryside.

Cultural history between chapel, church and priory

The Chapelle de Clémencé dates from the 14th century and was listed as a historic monument by decree on 14 November 1977. Its architecture can be described through several specific features: the chapel has four bays, a flat-ended choir and a single-nave hall. Its polygonal wooden vault is decorated with geometric motifs. The bays divide the space, while the vault’s shape and patterns provide a distinctive architectural accent.

The Église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte has documented building phases spanning several centuries. It was probably built towards the end of the 12th century or at the beginning of the 13th. The choir dates from the 15th century, and the southern transept chapel from the 16th century. Its heritage protection status also distinguishes between its parts: by decree of 30 March 1978, the west portal was classified as a historic monument; the rest of the church was listed by the same decree.

A stone statue identified as “Sainte Gauburge?” stands at the junction of the choir and the north transept. The object dates from the 16th century and was registered as a protected object in 1986. Its name, location and period give the church a connection to local tradition in addition to its architectural history.

The history of the Benedictine priory, the Prieuré de Sainte-Gauburge, begins in 1006. Its protected buildings include the church, the priory house and the convent building; they were classified as historic monuments by decree on 28 April 1980. The priory features richly decorated chimneys, a stair tower and rooms dating from the 13th century. Six panels explain the site’s history. Here, architectural history and historical context go hand in hand.

Heritage and trails in the Perche

The Écomusée du Perche collects, preserves and studies the tangible and intangible heritage of the Perche and presents it to the public. One admission ticket gives you access to both the Écomusée and the Prieuré de Sainte-Gauburge. Check the ticket conditions before your trip, as details may change. This lets you combine an interest in regional heritage with the priory’s historical themes.

The trails also offer different points of interest. The La Pierre Procureuse hiking trail leads to a dolmen. According to legend, it was built around 3000 BC. La Croix de Lognonnet follows paths through the rural Perche countryside and starts at the renovated church in the centre of Saint-Cyr-La-Rosière. One trail therefore leads to the dolmen, while the other starts at the church in the village centre and takes in the Perche landscape.

The area’s natural heritage also includes the Black Bee Conservatory’s protected zone: Saint-Cyr-La-Rosière is one of 25 municipalities within this area. Together with the trails, this offers another perspective on the landscape without replacing the historical focus on the chapels, church and priory.
