Tessy-Sur-Vire brings together themes you may weigh differently when choosing a destination: contemporary art, an unusual legacy of beekeeping, historic sites, and activities by bike or on the water. If you are looking for a hotel in Tessy-Sur-Vire, these interests can shape the focus of your stay. Cultural highlights include artists’ residencies and the history of the bee wall; nearby, there are also opportunities for canoe trips.

Art and Residencies

L’Usine Utopik is a cultural centre for contemporary art that hosts artists from around the world for residencies. An artists’ residency draws attention not only to finished works, but also to the creative process. At the Festival des Bords de Vire, visitors were able to experience this side of artistic creation in 2026: they watched artists at work, learned about their techniques, and talked with them about their artistic approach.

The festival took place from 29 June to 17 July 2026 in Tessy-sur-Vire for its eighth edition. The visits ran over three weeks. Another specific connection to the arts is the Théâtre des Halles in Tessy-sur-Vire: in 2021, it hosted the team behind “Toutes leurs robes noires” for one week as part of their two-week residency. These examples illustrate different timeframes and should not be understood as a current events programme.

Local History: Bee Wall and Historic Sites

The Mur à Abeilles was built around 1810 in the hamlet of La Poëmellière by a beekeeper using wattle and clay. The wall was designed to house beehives in niches. It once accommodated around 100 hives, of which 34 are still visible. It is considered the largest known bee wall in France. The structure can therefore be understood both through its traditional construction and its former purpose: the niches were part of an installation for keeping bees.

Near Tessy-sur-Vire, the Grotte du Diable overlooks the Vire Valley. It is also associated with a figure from local history: it served as a refuge for Amédé Duval Duperron, a justice of the peace who worked in Tessy-sur-Vire in the 19th century. In Pont-Farcy stands the Pont Bailey, a military bridge made from components that had been used for the artificial harbour at Arromanches after the landing on 6 June 1944. The two sites offer different historical connections: the cave is associated with a justice of the peace, while the bridge is linked to the later reuse of components from the harbour.

Cycling Routes and Canoe Trips

The greenway from Condé-sur-Vire to Fourneaux leads to the medieval town of Tessy-sur-Vire, where granite buildings can be seen. In the area of the municipality of Tessy-Bocage, the Voie Verte is described as a 19-kilometre cycling route with an approximate riding time of 45 minutes. These details give both a connection to the destination and a distance and time estimate for the ride.

For an activity on the water, the Base des gorges de la Vire nearby offers canoe and kayak rentals on the waterway at the Pont-Farcy campsite. Half-day and full-day trips are also available. Alongside cycling, this gives you another activity for your stay, with two different timeframes for the trip. Before planning, check the dates of any event you would like to attend and the current availability of hotel accommodation.
