Saint-Martin-De-Bréhal: Beach and Coast in the Cotentin
Accommodation in Saint-Martin-De-Bréhal
Saint-Martin-De-Bréhal is a destination with a strong connection to the coast. When looking for a hotel for your stay, you can base your choice on whether you are mainly planning to enjoy the beach and go swimming, follow a coastal route or take part in leisure activities for children. The different offerings vary in their conditions, scope and age requirements.
Beach and swimming
Saint-Martin de Bréhal beach lies on the west coast of the Cotentin, opposite the Îles Chausey archipelago and near the Havre de la Vanlée. Plage de Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal stretches for 3 kilometres and defines the coastal character of the town.
During the season, swimming at the beach is supervised by lifeguards during the day. The bathing areas are repositioned according to the tides. Before your visit, check the latest information about lifeguard supervision and the location of the bathing areas so you can take these seasonal conditions into account when planning.
The beach is accessible to people with disabilities and has a beach wheelchair for accessing the water. As the equipment provided may change, please check its current availability before your visit.
Coastal routes
The 22-kilometre stage of the GR®223 starts in Saint-Martin de Bréhal and leads to Bouillon. It first follows the constructed promenade along the seawall above the beach, then continues along the dunes. Its start, destination and route make this stage a specific way to include the coast in your travel plans beyond a beach visit.
The “Boucle de la Vanlée” route leads, among other places, to the seaside resort and beach of Saint-Martin de Bréhal. The two routes therefore differ in their focus: the GR®223 stage follows the seawall promenade and dunes to Bouillon, while the seaside resort and beach are among the named destinations on the Boucle.
Water experiences and leisure activities
A guided pirogue experience takes you close to the bouchot mussel beds. The offering also includes a salt-making workshop and a tasting of local products. The trip thus combines an insight into salt-making with the chance to sample regional produce.
Saint Mart'anim is a family-oriented leisure destination in Saint Martin de Bréhal. In July and August, its offerings include free creative craft workshops, a zip line, sports and leisure activities, water activities and games. As the programme is seasonal, check the current programme before your visit.
Le Poney Marin is a pony club in Saint-Martin de Bréhal, in Les Mielles between the dunes and the Havre de la Vanlée. Pony introductions are offered for children aged 3 and up, discovery courses for those aged 4 and up, and introductory activities for children up to 12 years old. The age requirements distinguish between the available types of activities; as participation details may change, please check the current offering in advance.
