Longfossé: Crafts and Parish Church
Accommodation in Longfossé
Crafts and Church Architecture in Longfossé
Longfossé offers two distinct cultural points of interest for planning a trip: the parish church dedicated to Saint Peter and the Village des Métiers d’Art. The “Les Courtils” route also adds the town to a further sequence of destinations. This choice directs the timing of your plans towards different attractions.
Parish Church near Bois de l’Eperche
The parish church dedicated to Saint Peter is not in the town centre, but near the edge of Bois de l’Eperche. Its choir does not end in an octagonal apse, but in a rectangular gable. Those interested in sacred architecture can note the choir’s ending as a striking detail, alongside its location at the edge of the woods.
Village des Métiers d’Art: Crafts and Visitor Information
The Village des Métiers d’Art is located in Longfossé at 5189, Chaussée Brunehaut, RD 341. Twelve craftspeople work there in fields such as ceramics, stained glass, jewellery making, metal engraving, woodworking and bookbinding. The Village also provides individual craft professionals with workshops measuring 70 m². This destination therefore brings together two aspects: the variety of specific crafts and the professional working facilities that make their work possible. This is a different subject to consider when planning a visit than the sacred architecture of the parish church.
The Village regularly opens to the public during the European Artistic Crafts Days and for night markets; however, free individual visits are subject to separate conditions. Free individual visits are only possible during the December creators’ markets, the summer night markets or the European Artistic Crafts Days. The craftspeople currently based there can only be seen by appointment. These are two different conditions to bear in mind when planning: a public market day and an appointment with the craftspeople are not the same thing. If you would like to visit the Village, check the specific event dates; if you would like to see the craftspeople currently based there, an appointment is required.
Les Courtils and Trip Planning
The “Les Courtils” route passes through Longfossé and then continues to Desvres, where it starts at the Musée de la Céramique. This means Longfossé is relevant not only as a place to stay for the church and crafts, but also as part of a named sequence of destinations. When planning, it is best to distinguish between visiting individual cultural sites and taking this route: “Les Courtils” also includes Desvres and the starting point at the Musée in its described sequence. This will help you decide whether the route itself or a specific site should be your focus.
The parish church is notable for its architecture and location; Les Courtils is notable for its sequence of destinations through Longfossé and Desvres. Plan your travel time around the focus you would like to shape your stay.
