Embry offers two clear starting points for planning a trip: a rich local and ecclesiastical history, and walking trails with different routes. When choosing a destination for your stay, you can take these themes into account or focus on one of them. The Church of Saint Martin, the church square and the La Neuvaine trail provide concrete points of reference in Embry; other options include the Le Mont Caudron trail and the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes.

La Neuvaine and Le Mont Caudron

The 11 km La Neuvaine is recognised by the FFRP and starts in Embry’s square. The route also runs from the “Antillean” chapel in Embry to the picturesque hamlet of Saint-Wandrille and through the heart of the Embryenne. The 11 km distance gives you a concrete sense of the length of the walk; its starting point and destination help you understand its route. Check local conditions before setting out.

Le Mont Caudron offers a different perspective on the trails: the walking route passes through Embry, above the Embrienne, and then follows the river. By comparison, La Neuvaine has a clearly stated distance, starting point and destination; for Le Mont Caudron, the route description helps you find your way. This lets you distinguish the routes by their specific features. Details of the Le Mont Caudron route may change, so take this into account when planning.

Church and architectural history

The Church of Saint Martin is distinguished by its broad windows with varied stone tracery and different stone mullions, as well as its southern side porch. The village church is a hall church, estimated to date from around 1500. The window details, architectural form and approximate date offer various ways to explore the local architecture.

At the end of the 19th century, architect Clovis Normand designed a restoration plan for the church, to be carried out in two building campaigns. The plan was intended to preserve the original Gothic style. Thus, the church’s architectural history includes not only its design but also its later restoration plans.

The church square also contributes to the village’s history: the school is one of the three buildings that stand out there. The former school building was originally a school run by nuns, where girls were taught until 1905. The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes is also among Embry’s sights. Together, these places offer points of interest for those with a range of interests in local history and religious architecture.
