Discover Courrières and find hotels
Accommodation in Courrières
Courrières combines historic landmarks with urban cultural and leisure activities. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can start by considering whether architectural history, events, sporting activities or nature watching best match your interests. The facilities vary considerably in their focus and use.
Church and mining history
Two construction phases come together at the parish church of Saint-Piat. The new building, erected between 1961 and 1964, preserves the surviving walls and tower of a church dating from 1534. The building’s long history can therefore be seen in specific parts of the church: the date 1534 refers to the older church, while 1961 to 1964 marks the construction of the new building.
A mining concession granted in 1852 covered twelve municipalities and was named “concession de Courrières”. This adds a regional dimension spanning several municipalities to Courrières’ mining history.
Culture and urban amenities
The municipal Médiathèque François Mitterrand offers a free monthly programme for everyone. It includes workshops, performances, events, creative leisure workshops and exhibitions. Depending on your interests, you can look for a hands-on activity, a performance or an exhibition.
Films are shown at the municipal cinema “Le Travelling”. As the film programme changes, check the current schedule before visiting.
The municipal indoor swimming pool has a splash pool, a shallow pool that gradually gets deeper, a sports pool and a sauna.
Exercise, animals and time outdoors
Parc de Loisirs Léo Lagrange has a fitness trail and sports equipment, including a street workout area. Facilities also include two municipal outdoor tennis courts open to everyone, a children’s playground, multi-sport courts and a pétanque court. The options range from sports and exercise areas to play and multi-purpose spaces.
At “Central parc”, communal barbecue areas are available for picnics in a rural setting.
The educational farm in Courrières welcomes families for free visits, where they can observe animals during opening hours. As opening hours may change, it is best to check them before your visit.
The municipal equestrian centre is open year-round and offers riding lessons for everyone aged five and over; a licence is required. If you are planning a riding lesson, check the current lesson arrangements in advance.
At the cabin of the “L’Odyssée des Cabanes” project, the focus is on observing nature and rediscovering Courrières from a different perspective.
Landscape and walking options
Parc des berges de la Souchez extends across several neighbouring partner municipalities. Its green spaces, as well as its land and water areas, are attractive to visitors year-round.
An interactive walking map is available for the Hénin-Carvin area, with walking routes that can be enjoyed year-round. The area has 285 km of paths for walks and hikes; this figure refers to the overall network, not the length of a single route.
