Inxent stretches along the Course and is predominantly a linear village. It combines a river landscape with architectural history, religious tradition and recurring events. If you are looking for hotels in Inxent, you can plan your stay around your interests: landscape and nature, church architecture or an event in the annual calendar. Horseback rides and local arts offerings add to these themes. If you are travelling for a festival or rally, check the latest dates.

The Course, Landscape and Nature

Inxent lies within the ZNIEFF de la vallée de la Course et ses affluents des sources à sa confluence avec la Canche, a Type 1 continental ecological inventory area. This designation was nationally validated on 20 September 2023. From Inxent’s highest viewpoint, you can see the wind turbines at Widehem and the sea. The view from this spot therefore extends beyond the linear village’s immediate setting along the Course.

Inxent is also home to the Association OISO, a regional centre for the care and protection of wildlife. The landscape designation and this local organisation offer two distinct connections to the village’s natural environment.

Architectural History in the Village

At the Eglise de la Nativité, two building phases can be seen in the difference in height between the choir and the nave. The date 1765 is engraved on the portal; it probably refers to the renovation of the façade and construction of the bell tower. Inxent’s former manor farm dates from 1577 and was restored in 1826. Nearby, resort-style architecture stands alongside houses made of wattle and daub and half-timbering. The village’s architecture thus encompasses several building styles and historical connections, not just the church.

Saint Anthony’s Festival and Event Dates

Every year, on the first Sunday after 17 January, Inxent holds a major festival in honour of Saint Anthony. The ceremony is followed by a procession along the main street, led by an altar server and the two kings. The route through the main street is therefore also part of the tradition described here. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the latest date in advance.

For art events and exhibitions, the Association pour la Promotion des Arts Contemporains works with animal painter Dominique Gall. This arts offering also includes an art school based in Inxent.
