When planning a stay in Reclinghem, you can choose between several local highlights: the Les Romains circular trail, Saint-Firmin Church and the archaeological traces at Le Village. La Ferme La Chev’riotte adds local produce and group visits by appointment to these themes.

Hiking the Les Romains circular trail

The 7.9-kilometre Les Romains circular trail, which can be explored on foot, starts in Reclinghem. It runs through the bocage landscape along the banks of the Lys and climbs hills lined with the Haute Lys wind turbines. Riverbanks, hedgerows and ridgelines shape the route. On the slope of a hill, the path passes a concrete cross about 20 metres high. It is considered a tribute to a soldier who returned home safely in 1942.

The GPX and KML files for Les Romains are provided by the GP Tourism Office; download availability may change. Before setting out, check that the files can be accessed and use them to plan your route.

Saint-Firmin Church and its building history

The building history of Saint-Firmin Church comprises several clearly dated stages. Its oldest part is the tower, dating from 1682. Around 1700, a public collection funded the addition of the choir. The choir is the liturgical area at the altar end. The church also houses the bell Albertine Noémie Marie, which dates from 1880. The tower, choir and bell thus mark different points in time between the late 17th and 19th centuries.

Archaeological traces at Le Village

The first significant settlement at Le Village in Reclinghem dates back to the 10th to 11th centuries, at the beginning of the Middle Ages. Archaeological excavations revealed an almost continuous human settlement there from the Middle Ages to the present day. The early settlement included several large wooden buildings. Finds from the First World War include ammunition, tin cans and glass bottles. They are associated with British soldiers who buried their waste at a staging point between the Côte d’Opale and the Front de l’Artois.

Le Village thus represents a long sequence of settlement; Saint-Firmin Church complements this perspective with individual, clearly dated stages of construction and furnishing.

Local produce and group visits

La Ferme La Chev’riotte in Reclinghem makes fresh goat’s cheese, cheese rolls and yoghurt. The farm also produces soaps, ice cream and other local products. Product availability may change. Group visits with wine-and-cheese activities are offered by appointment; visit arrangements may also change. If you are planning a group visit, arrange the date in advance.

For your planning, the distinction is important: you can use GPX or KML files for the circular trail, whereas a visit to the farm is a group activity by appointment.
