Brommat offers several starting points for planning a trip: the architecture of its villages, historic buildings, and opportunities for hiking, swimming, and exercise. Its history spans everything from the hydroelectric plant inaugurated in 1933 to an 18th-century mill. The Le vallon de Brommat trail showcases the natural landscape, with its forests, pastures, and valley views.

Architecture and History

In the villages of the municipality of Brommat, local architecture makes extensive use of basalt, as well as slate, granite, and river sand. The long, steep roofs are covered with lava slate and feature several dormer windows. The result is a combination of diverse materials and distinctive roof shapes.

Brommat’s first hydroelectric plant was built at Le Brézou and inaugurated in 1933. Le Brézou’s architectural heritage also includes an underground hall, houses, and a church, all designed in the Art Deco style. Here, industrial history and architecture stand side by side as distinct themes.

Brommat’s church dates from the late 15th century and replaced an older Romanesque church. Sculptures of masks, figures, and other depictions adorn the bases of its Gothic arches, both inside and out. Nearby, a fortified house with a trapezoidal tower has also been preserved; its openings date from the 15th century.

The Musée Le Moulin de Burée combines an 18th-century mill with a mill complex whose history extends into the 1980s. The museum offers guided tours by advance reservation. To plan your visit, call 06 30 96 34 87 to ask about current reservation arrangements.

Hiking through Forests and Pastures

The Le vallon de Brommat trail passes through forests and pastures. Along the way, views open up over the wild Bromme Valley and the Brommat Valley. The trail description thus combines specific landscape sections with two distinct valley views, rather than reducing the hike to a single viewpoint.

Swimming, Classes, and Wellness

The heated municipal swimming pool has a main pool for adults and a children’s pool with a slide. It also offers swimming lessons. Seasonal access to the pool and lesson availability may change; check both before your visit.

NATURA has facilities covering more than 1,000 square metres, including balneotherapy, a sauna, a hammam, a whirlpool, hydromassage jets, and a counter-current pool. It also offers water-based activities, strength training, squash, and yoga. Other options include aquabike, baby swimming, and group classes such as Pilates, postural ball, and fitness. NATURA therefore offers a different combination from the municipal pool: while the latter has two pools and swimming lessons, NATURA combines water-based activities with strength training, squash, and group classes.
