Lagarrigue: Hiking on the GR6 and culture in the surrounding area
Accommodation in Lagarrigue
In Lagarrigue, hiking and culture can offer different focuses for a trip; in Campuac, sports and leisure by the water add other options.
Hiking and trails
Lagarrigue lies on the GR6, which is considered a shorter variant of the GR65 Way of St. James here. The Le plateau de Campuac route follows a grassy path to Lagarrigue. It runs along the GR6 in the direction of Causseran. When planning a hike, you can therefore keep several points of reference in mind: the connection to the Way of St. James, the path surface, and the direction of Causseran. Check the condition of the route and its markings before setting out.
Walks and fishing at the Plan d’eau
The Plan d’eau de Campuac is accessible year-round and equipped for anglers and walkers. Fishing is also possible there year-round; the body of water is classified as a second-category fishing area, and a permit is required. For walks, year-round access is relevant; fishing also involves the category, the permit requirement, and the applicable rules. As fishing regulations may change, check the requirements before fishing.
Quilles de huit at the Quillodrom
Numerous Quilles de huit competitions are held year-round at Campuac’s Quillodrom; the facility is used on 48 weekends a year. Anyone interested in the sport can consider it a year-round activity. For travel plans connected to a specific competition, however, the date of that event is what matters. As the program may change, check the dates in advance.
Culture and remembrance
The Jean-Jacques Anquetin memorial stele is located in the commune of Campuac on the D904 between Villecomtal and Entraygues, near the village of Lagarrigue. It commemorates a 17-year-old member of the Compagnie Fred du Maquis de Pradels, who fell fighting the enemy. The memorial is thus dedicated to a specific person: the young maquisard’s age, affiliation, and death form its historical core.
La ChevĂŞche in the hamlet of La Garrigue is a small, well-equipped theatre that hosts readings as well as small-scale theatre, music, and shadow-puppet performances. Unlike the stele, its cultural focus is on readings and performances. Together, personal remembrance and several performing arts formats cater to different cultural interests.
Landscape and regional context
The commune of Campuac lies on the granite plateau of Haut-Rouergue. Conques offers another regional connection, with its medieval village and the Sainte-Foy Basilica among the sights in the wider area around Lagarrigue. For trip planning, Campuac’s landscape is therefore distinct from Conques’s cultural and historical focus; both offer different perspectives on the area around Lagarrigue.
