Discover Salles-Curan
Accommodation in Salles-Curan
For a stay in Salles-Curan, Lac de Pareloup and the area’s cultural heritage offer different ways to plan your visit: the Plages des Vernhes focus on the beach and water sports, while the statue, Commanderie, museum and château offer historical or artistic points of interest. You can choose to focus on time by the water, an activity on the lake or cultural visits.
Lac de Pareloup: beaches and water activities
The Plages des Vernhes are beaches on Lac de Pareloup awarded the Pavillon Bleu label. The two neighbouring beaches are connected by a footpath accessible to people with reduced mobility. At the Plages des Vernhes, you can rent pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards, canoes and boats.
The CYVP offers sailing courses of one to five sessions; each session lasts two hours. You can choose from Optimists, windsurf boards, dinghies and catamarans. Optimist courses are suitable for children aged seven and over. A single session lasts two hours; several sessions take proportionally longer. The CYVP also rents out water sports equipment ranging from paddleboards to catamarans and offers introductory trips on the lake. Before travelling, check whether the season you have in mind is suitable for the CYVP activities.
Excursions with Pareloup Pilot go to ĂŽle aux Serpents and ĂŽle aux Oiseaux. Pareloup Pilot also offers motorboat trips on Lac de Pareloup, departing from Les Vernhes. This gives you several ways to experience the lake: sailing courses, rental equipment, introductory trips and excursions. If you prefer fishing, you can do so on Lac de Pareloup all year round. The lake is classified as a second-category fishing water.
A walk with views of the lake
The family walk “Vierge des Lacs” offers a viewpoint overlooking Lac de Pareloup. It provides a different focus from water activities: here, the emphasis is on the view across the lake rather than a trip on the water or rented water sports equipment. You can include the walk as a separate option in your travel plans if you would like to experience the lake from a viewpoint.
Statue, Commanderie and museum
The statue Notre Dame des Lacs, also known as “Vierge des Lacs”, was erected by J. P. Duroux in 1956 to protect the newly created lakes. The monument is therefore linked to the history of the lakes.
The Commanderie des Canabières of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem is considered the oldest hospital foundation in Rouergue. It can only be viewed from the outside. The Musée Eugène Viala showcases part of Eugène Viala’s work and offers another cultural point of interest.
A guided tour of the exterior and garden of Château de Larguiès takes around 45 minutes. Check seasonal availability before travelling. The approximate duration makes the visit a clearly defined itinerary item; the museum and Commanderie offer different focuses on art and history, respectively.
