La Loubière offers three distinct ways to plan a trip: hiking, landscapes and heritage. The village sits on a small rocky promontory that protects the houses from severe flooding of the Aveyron. The Causse Comtal is marked by numerous dry-stone walls and Cazelles; shepherds once used the Cazelles as temporary shelters. This makes it possible to consider the landscape and its former use side by side.

Hiking Trails and Landscapes

The three discovery trails are marked and equipped with information panels about fauna, flora and geology. They offer a nature-focused way to learn about wildlife and plant life, as well as geological topics.

The distances of the easy hiking trails can be compared directly: the Chemin des cazelles is 7.5 km long, Les berges de l’Aveyron is 8.5 km, and the Chemin des fontaines is 10 km. Les berges de l’Aveyron is therefore the middle distance of the three. The Chemin des cazelles is marked in yellow and passes through Ortholès, with its beautiful houses and a 16th-century tower. The Chemin des fontaines has 120 m of cumulative positive elevation gain. Its description as an easy trail at the same time shows that difficulty level and elevation profile are separate details.

These features may help you choose a route: the distance in kilometres gives you an idea of the trail length, while the Chemin des fontaines also has an elevation gain to consider. For the Chemin des cazelles, the yellow markings and route through Ortholès are specific points to help you find your way. This can help you weigh up which features matter for your outing.

The Sébazac par la crête et le causse trail offers views of the piton Ruthénois, the cathedral to the south and the Monts d’Aubrac to the north. The car park for this trail is at La Loubière town hall in Lioujas. The Trail d’Aqui – Route No. 11 La Loubière is a trail route in La Loubière.

Heritage and Historic Sites

The Dolmen de Cayssac 1 in Les Roques, La Loubière, is a Neolithic dolmen. A decree dated 20 July 1989 designated it a historic monument. The Neolithic designation refers to its era; its status as a historic monument is a separate aspect.

The Romanesque Fontaine de Cayssac is in La Loubière. The Church of Saint Pierre in Cayssac dates from the 15th century and has a bell-cote. In this type of structure, the bells are housed in a gable-like construction. The dolmen, fountain and church therefore differ both in form and in period.

Those interested in the history of the area can consider the remains by period and building type: the Neolithic dolmen, the Romanesque fountain and the 15th-century church. Together with the Cazelles, once used by shepherds as temporary shelters, these sites and landscape features offer different insights into the heritage of La Loubière.
