Plaisir offers several distinct highlights to consider when planning a trip: a large forest and wetland area, protected historic sites and performing arts. If you are looking for a hotel in Plaisir, you can first decide whether nature, heritage or an events programme will shape your stay. This will help you plan your other visits and choose the time of year for your trip. If you have a particular performance in mind, check the event dates, as the programmes at the two venues change seasonally.

Forest, trails and traces of history

The Forêt de Sainte-Apolline covers 294 hectares and is a forest and wetland area in Plaisir and Neauphle-le-Château. Walking trails and picnic areas are among the facilities available there. This natural setting is ideal for combining outdoor exercise with a break. The forest also bears traces of history: the remains of a former fortified manor house have been preserved. A centuries-old lime-tree avenue marks the site of a former chapel. This also makes the forest interesting for travellers who see nature and history as connected themes.

A car park is available for visitors to the Forêt de Sainte-Apolline. The forest can also be reached on Hourtoule bus route 10 towards Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, getting off at the “La Chaine” stop. Check the bus service information before travelling so you can plan your journey around your intended visit.

Château, park and heritage sites

The Château de Plaisir and the Parc du Château were classified as historic monuments by decree on 25 August 1961. The château is one of the oldest surviving early modern castles in the Yvelines. A separate designation applies to the Domaine de Plaisir: around 50 hectares of the estate, excluding the château, have been classified as a protected site since the decree of 26 December 1946. Thus, the first designation covers the château and park, while the second covers an approximately 50-hectare site that excludes the château.

The polychrome limestone statue “Sainte Catherine” is located in the Church of Saint-Pierre. It was listed as a protected movable object on 3 November 1982.

Performing arts and trip planning

The performing arts are also represented by two venues. The Théâtre Coluche has 868 seats and a large stage for both major productions and more intimate performances. La Clé des Champs, which opened in 2006, has a capacity of 300. Its varied programme features national and international artists as well as talent from the regional scene; the venue also has two studios, a bar and a wide range of cultural activities. The seating figures give a clear idea of the size of the two venues: the Théâtre Coluche has 868 seats, compared with 300 at La Clé des Champs. However, which performance is right for your stay depends on the seasonally changing programme, so check the dates for your travel period.

Plaisir is served by two railway stations: Plaisir-Grignon and Plaisir-Les Clayes. Be sure to check the timetables for your chosen travel dates separately.
