Explore Flexanville through several specific themes: the Église Saint-Germain de Paris in the historic town center, the relationship between the river, a stream, and a former mill, and the hiking stages of the Grande Randonnée vers Paris 2024. If you are looking for a hotel in Flexanville, these themes can shape the focus of your stay: church architecture and art, river history, or a hike clearly tied to a particular date. A seasonal farm offering adds another local connection.

Église Saint-Germain de Paris in the town center

The Église Saint-Germain de Paris is located in the historic town center of Flexanville. It was built on a basilica-style plan; its bell tower is a landmark in the landscape. The floor plan describes the building’s design, while the tower shapes the surrounding landscape. The church also houses a 14th-century Madonna and Child, which is protected as movable cultural property. The architectural description is thus accompanied by a work of art with its own date. Restoration work was initiated with the aim of reopening the church to parishioners and visitors. If you are planning a visit, check in advance for current visiting arrangements.

River history and former uses

The Flexanville River is one of the most important waterways flowing through the commune. The historical record also preserves the sequence of names for a stream: before the confluence, it is called the Ru de l’Aunay; at the end of the pond, it flows into the Ru de Flexanville. The two names can therefore be assigned to specific parts of this relationship: Ru de l’Aunay refers to the stream before it joins the other watercourse, while Ru de Flexanville is the watercourse it flows into. The stream once powered the Moulin de Tessé. This former use adds a historical connection to the mill to the description of the watercourse. One of two covered washhouses was established in Hédin, also known as Chantereine.

2024 hiking stages

The Grande Randonnée vers Paris 2024 included the Flexanville–Beynes stage, part of which followed the GR11, as well as another stage from Richebourg to Flexanville. This second stage was 12.9 kilometers long and took place in May 2024. In the route information, Flexanville is once the starting point for the route to Beynes and once the destination from Richebourg. The 12.9-kilometer distance belongs to the Richebourg–Flexanville stage; the GR11 reference applies to the stage to Beynes. This keeps each route detail associated with the correct connection.
