Chatou offers several options for a stay: relaxing on Île de Chatou, public art, historic churches, museums and the regularly held Foire de Chatou. When planning your trip, first consider whether you would like to focus mainly on an event date, art and history, or walks.

Islands, walks and leisure

Île de Chatou lies opposite the historic village of Chatou. The artificial island is a place for recreation and relaxation. Île des Impressionnistes stretches for 4.5 kilometres.

Family and sports walks are the focus at Parc des Impressionnistes. The park’s leisure facilities include a sports hall, a skatepark, a basketball court and a pony club. You can choose the park based on the kind of activity that suits your plans. Chemin des Impressionnistes is designated as a walking route and offers a specific point of reference for planning a walk.

Art and architectural history

The street-art promenade “Le street art s’invite en Terre Impressionniste!” features 13 works of art. The Musée d’Art et de Culture Soufis MTO® in Chatou offers a different way to engage with art: it is entirely devoted to Sufism and displays a collection of unique objects connected with Sufism, as well as contemporary artworks. Île des Impressionnistes is also home to a renovated museum that has been open since 1992. It invites visitors to rediscover an era through exhibitions, artworks, archival documents and immersive experiences. Exhibitions and visit formats may change.

The architectural history also provides a clear chronological reference. The parish church of Notre-Dame was built in the 12th century; its bell tower and flat-ended choir date from the 13th century. This makes it possible to distinguish features from two successive centuries in the building. Église de Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is part of Chatou’s art and history trail.

Maison Levanneur has been used by Galerie Bessière since 2018. If you plan to visit the gallery specifically, check its current use before your trip. This will keep your plans focused on the visit that matters most to you.

The Foire de Chatou as a reason to travel

The Foire de Chatou is held twice a year and is considered a longstanding institution. If you want to plan your trip around a particular edition, check the dates in advance. At the fair, visitors can enjoy regional products such as ham, foie gras, saucisson, oysters and honey, and put together a basket of specialities. The food selection may vary from one edition to another.

Planning considerations therefore differ depending on your focus: dates are important for a visit to the fair, while the gallery’s current use matters if you are planning a specific gallery visit, and museum exhibitions may change.
