Theatre, cinema and storytelling offer another perspective, while the market and green spaces complete the picture. You can tailor your stay to the topics that interest you.
Church, monastery and Séminaire
The Church of Sainte-Colombe was built between the 10th and 15th centuries and is one of the oldest churches in Île-de-France. It is also considered the oldest building visitors can see when visiting Chevilly-Larue. Check visiting arrangements in advance, as opening conditions may vary. Together with the Saint-Michel Monastery and the Séminaire des Missions, the church forms part of Chevilly-Larue’s architectural heritage, which is protected as historic monuments.
The Séminaire des Missions was founded in 1864 by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit on the former Thoinard de Jouy estate. The estate includes a park of just under nine hectares that has been preserved to this day. Saint-Michel Monastery was established in Chevilly in 1906–1907 on a site of more than four hectares, largely wooded and planted with vegetation. The dates illustrate the long span of the area’s architectural history: the church was built between the 10th and 15th centuries, and the monastery at the beginning of the 20th century.
Theatre, cinema and storytelling
The Théâtre-Cinéma Chevilly-Larue André Malraux presents performing arts and films in a 400-seat auditorium. Each season features around thirty events for all age groups. The cinema screens just under 300 films a year. This gives you a choice of different cultural formats: a stage programme throughout the season and a separate cinema programme.
The Maison du conte also focuses on storytelling. It welcomes audiences, amateurs and artists, and stages around ten performances each year at its own venues and those of its partners. Its programme for amateur and professional participants includes courses, weekends, workshops, masterclasses and conferences on the fundamentals of storytelling. If you are particularly interested in oral storytelling, this focus is distinct from the stage and film offerings at the Théâtre-Cinéma.
Food market, green spaces and connections
A food market is held in the town centre at Place Nelson Mandela every Wednesday and Saturday from 11:00 to 19:30. As market times may change, check the current schedule before your visit. For navigating public transport, Chevilly-Larue – Marché international metro station is a useful point of reference: it is linked to tram line T7 and bus line TVM. Plan your journey using the current timetables.
Chevilly-Larue has around 29 hectares of public green spaces, of which 12 hectares are municipally managed. In the arboretum at Clos Saint-Michel, signs identify the tree species found there. There are also seven squares and smaller green spaces with play facilities for children of all ages. The green spaces described here range from an arboretum with labelled trees to squares and areas with play facilities.
