Ivry-Sur-Seine brings together contemporary art and industrial architecture with historic memorial sites and green spaces. When planning your stay, you can focus on what interests you most: exhibitions and theatre, the history of notable buildings, or gardens and nature watching. These different themes offer distinct insights into the area, without limiting your stay to just one side of the city.

Contemporary art and theatre

Le Crédac is a contemporary art centre. Its focus is on visual art, artistic production and experimentation, and bringing audiences into contact with the works. The programme includes painting, photography, video, sound, graphic art, sculpture, installation, and performance. Its range therefore extends from works on paper and moving images to spatial and live art forms. Which exhibition or event you can experience depends on the current programme; check it if you want to plan your visit around it.

Le Crédac’s exhibition spaces are accessible to wheelchair users and visitors with strollers. As visitor information may change, it is a good idea to check the current opening hours before your visit. The Théâtre des Quartiers d’Ivry offers another way to experience art through performances, artist residencies, and artistic activities. It is accessible to everyone; specific dates may vary depending on the programme.

Industrial architecture and the cityscape

The Manufacture des Œillets offers an introduction to Ivry-Sur-Seine’s industrial history. Charles Bac had the factory built in 1890 to produce pen nibs and metal eyelets. An expansion in 1913 added a tower and a building described as “American-style,” modelled on the Daylight Factory. Le Crédac has occupied the top floor of the red-brick building, constructed from glass and steel in 1913 following this model, since 2011. Here, the history of an industrial site meets its present-day cultural use.

The Étoiles de Renaudie also shape the architectural landscape: this emblematic urban area is arranged on stepped terraces. Shops, homes, and business premises sit side by side. The mix of uses and tiered design make it a distinctive example of urban architecture. Renée Gailhoustet worked for several years on the renewal of Ivry-Sur-Seine, making urban development another part of the area’s architectural story.

History, monuments, and memorial sites

The Moulin de la Tour is documented as far back as 1680 and is probably older. It was restored in 1976 and added to the supplementary register of historic monuments. It can be visited free of charge on the third Saturday of each month from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. As visits are limited to set times, check them before making plans.

The Église Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul has been mentioned since the 12th century. Its present architecture and furnishings date largely from the 16th and 17th centuries; the church has been listed as a historic monument since April 10, 1929. It is open for services and during reception hours. Check the reception hours before your visit. The Hôpital Charles Foix also has a distinctive architectural history: it opened in 1869 and consists of two identical groups of buildings enclosing a large courtyard and a chapel. Access to the hospital is subject to separate arrangements.

At the Cimetière parisien d’Ivry, remembrance and landscape come together. Its memorials and military sections commemorate the two world wars. At the same time, in a heavily urbanised neighbourhood, the cemetery is a green oasis appreciated by walkers and families. Its notable features include 1,903 trees representing 66 different species, as well as 46 bird species.

Gardens and nature in the city

The Parc départemental des Cormailles has several areas with different designs. Its themed gardens and garden islands include a sand garden, a vineyard garden, and a rose garden. Along a water feature are a canal, misting installations, reception pavilions, and a sliding play area. The Jardin des cimes and a solarium are on the Lilienhügel; the slope features climbing equipment and slides. The park therefore offers both garden design and a range of recreational features.

The Sentier des Vignes is open to the public during several events throughout the year, including grape harvests and seasonal festivals. Access is therefore tied to events; check the current calendar if you want to visit the trail. The Mairie d’Ivry metro station on Line 7 serves as a useful reference point in the town centre. The art and architecture, green spaces, and historic sites offer different points of reference when choosing a hotel in Ivry-Sur-Seine and planning your stay.
