Pinarellu: Beach, Island Nature and Genoese Tower
Accommodation in Pinarellu
Pinarellu offers several distinct points of interest to consider when planning your trip: Pinarello Beach, with shallow water extending over a long stretch, a wetland, island nature, a historic tower and activities on the water. If you are looking for a hotel in Pinarellu, it helps to first think about which of these aspects matter for your stay. Conditions vary: access to Ruscana is prohibited, the footpath to the Tour de Pinarello is difficult, and water sports activities may be seasonal.
Beach and Wetland
At Pinarello Beach, the water is shallow for a long stretch. A beach access mat, a beach wheelchair and accessible toilets are available for people with reduced mobility. As provision may change, check the current availability of these facilities before your trip. The wetland behind the beach includes the Padulatu pond. The long stretch of shallow water and the wetland behind it are two distinct features to consider when planning your stay.
Island Nature and Protection
The small island of Ruscana in the Bay of Pinarello is a Natura 2000 site and is protected under a ministerial biotope protection order. Access is prohibited. Observe this access restriction and check local regulations before your trip. Pinarellu Island is covered with juniper and maquis and can be reached by kayak or paddleboard. Weather and local rules may affect access conditions; take both into account when planning an outing.
The Tour de Pinarello
The Tour de Pinarello, also known as Isoli di Corsi, is listed as a historic monument and was completed in 1591. Along with the tower at Porto, it is one of the only square towers in southern Corsica. The completion date and architectural form provide different points of reference: the year dates the tower, while its square shape identifies its architectural style.
Access to the tower on foot is difficult. First, walk along Pinarello Beach and through the pine trees; then follow the customs officers’ path and cross a sea inlet with water about one metre deep. Check local access conditions before setting out. This will help you take the route description and stated difficulty into account when planning.
Water Sports and Guided Excursions
The Société Nautique de Pinarello offers wingfoil lessons and e-foil outings. It also rents out catamarans, dinghies, sea kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and wingfoils. This gives you a choice between lessons, outings and rental equipment. Check which rental equipment is currently available before your trip.
For the 2026 season, Sporsica CĂ´te Balades offers guided sea kayak or stand-up paddle excursions around Pinarellu Island. One of the tours includes a swimming break and a tasting of local products at the Genoese tower. These guided tours therefore differ from lessons and rentals: this tour also includes a tasting alongside the activity. The offering may be seasonal; check dates and availability before your trip.
Walking
An easy PR hiking trail runs between Pinarello and Vardiola. When comparing walking options, it is important to note the difference from the route to the tower: the trail between the two places is easy, while the footpath to the Tour de Pinarello is difficult. The respective difficulty ratings can help you choose a hike or plan your route to the monument.
