Belvédère-Campomoro: Genoese Towers and Coastal Trails
Accommodation in Belvédère-Campomoro
Belvédère-Campomoro offers travelers landmarks for a stay shaped by coastal scenery, hiking, and Corsican history. The Tour de Campomoro, Genoese towers, and the protected Campumoru-Senetosa natural area are among the highlights worth considering when planning a visit: views, trails through varied landscapes, and historic buildings.
Coastal Scenery and Views
The Tour de Campomoro offers views of the Gulf of Valincu, the distant peaks of the Incudine, and the beginning of the wild coastline. The Genoese towers of Campumoru and Senetosa can be reached on foot. So, alongside the panorama, the historic buildings are also a focus if you would like to explore the coast and its history.
South of Propriano in Corse-du-Sud, the protected Campumoru-Senetosa natural area covers 2,300 hectares and 24 kilometers of coastline. It stretches from the Pointe de Campumoru to the Anse de Tivedda. Granite, green coastal meadows, and extensive maquis shrubland shape the landscape; Phoenician juniper is the dominant species in the maquis. The natural area can be reached by sea and via two land access points: from the north at the Pointe de Campumoru, and from the south along the coastal path from the port of Tizzà.
Genoese Towers and Rural History
The Tour de Campomoro and its fortified enclosure were listed as a historic monument on August 4, 1992. The tower houses the permanent exhibition “Barbaresques.” It covers the history of Genoese towers in Corsica, the Barbary invasions, the looting of Sartène, and the construction of the Tour de Campomoro. For travelers interested in culture, the coast’s eventful history is as much in focus as the structure itself.
The I Pozzi loop hike also takes you past traces of rural history: the trail passes a spring and a historic threshing floor where wheat was threshed. Here, you can experience nature and the landscape’s former working life through specific points along the route.
Hikes with Different Highlights
The hike between Belvédère and Campomoro follows an old traditional path. It connects the hilltop hamlet of Belvédère with the coastal settlement of Campomoro and passes through holm oaks, tall maquis shrubland, and rocky boulder fields. The route is listed as taking 1 to 1¼ hours; walking time may vary depending on conditions. You can start in Belvédère or Campomoro.
The I Pozzi loop hike offers a different kind of route: it starts in Bassa Torra and takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, though walking time may vary depending on conditions. The trail passes through coastal meadows and groves of myrtle and juniper. Unlike the route between Belvédère and Campomoro, I Pozzi is a loop with its own starting point and a distinct sequence of landscapes.
The Canuseddu loop hike follows a stream and passes old terraces on the way to a viewpoint overlooking the coastal settlement of Campomoro. The Campomoro-Senetosa coastal path, meanwhile, crosses the coastal meadows of I Pozzi and passes the rocky outcrops of Scoddi Longhi and Scalonu. The routes therefore differ both in form—connecting trail, loop hike, or coastal path—and in the landscape features that stand out along the way.
Staying at the Refuge de Senetosa
The Refuge de Senetosa is located in the protected Campomoro-Senetosa natural area and serves as a resting place for hikers on the roughly 60-kilometer network of developed trails between Campomoro in the north and Tizzano in the south. Hikers, horse riders, and kayakers can stay there for a maximum of one or two nights. Overnight stays are available seasonally; check before your trip whether the refuge is open for your intended dates.
If you are looking for a hotel in Belvédère-Campomoro, you can plan your stay around the things that interest you most: the Genoese towers and their history, the views from the Tour de Campomoro, or hikes through varied landscapes and along different types of trails.
