In Letia, hiking routes, river scenery and sacred cultural heritage offer distinct themes to consider when planning a trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Letia and are also considering which local interests you would like to shape your stay, the detailed route descriptions and buildings can help you decide. The municipality is accessible via two roads and is part of the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse. It is known for its diverse flora.

Landscape and Hiking Routes

The Liamone rises in Letia at an altitude of 2,100 metres on the western slope of Monte Cimatella. The GR 20 runs through the northern part of Letia’s territory via Cimatella, while the Mare a Mare Nord crosses the municipality across its entire width. The routes therefore differ in their geographical scope: the GR 20 is associated with the northern part, while the Mare a Mare Nord crosses the full width of the municipality.

The “Randonnee de Letia à Guagno-les-Bains” hike is a variant of the Mare a Mare Nord. This PR trail starts in Letia and ends in Poggiolo. It follows the Liamone through a holm oak forest to the bridge at Guagno-les-Bains. Along the hike, numerous natural pools in the Liamone offer places to rest and cool off. For planning your time, note that the walking time of 4 hours and 30 minutes covers the round trip; the ascent is 400 metres.

Another hike, “De Renno à Letia,” passes through a chestnut grove along a Mare a Mare variant and ends in Letia St-Roch. This route is defined by the grove and its destination, while the hike to Guagno-les-Bains offers specific points of reference in its walking time, ascent and course along the Liamone. This allows you to compare the hikes by different features.

Churches, Art and History

The Chapel of Saint-Roch was dedicated to Saint Roch in 1686 and elevated to parish church status in 1703. In the early 1920s, the church was decorated with three frescoes by Ivan Choupik. Three paintings and a baptismal font in the church are protected as historical monuments. The chronology shows several distinct stages: the chapel’s dedication was followed by its elevation to parish church status, and the frescoes were added later.

The parish church of Saint-Martin houses the protected painting “Donation du Rosaire.” The churches have distinct highlights: Saint-Roch combines its history from chapel to parish church with frescoes and protected objects, while Saint-Martin is associated with the protected painting.

The Castello della Catena was built in Letia on a natural rock arch above two ravines. Archaeologists date the structure to the 9th century. The rock formation Arcu di a Catena forms an arch about ten metres high. Thus, alongside sacred buildings, Letia also offers an archaeologically dated structure and a striking geological formation to consider when planning your trip.
