Discover Alata
Accommodation in Alata
Alata offers several different starting points for planning your trip: a protected village site, historic buildings, a guided village tour, a half- or full-day excursion, and local produce. If you are looking for a hotel in Alata, you can first choose the focus of your stay based on your interest in local history, routes, or regional products.
Landscape and local history
The village of Alata is located on a protected site in the Punta Mora massif. This should be distinguished from the Golfe de Lava, which encompasses the municipalities of Alata, Appietto, and Villanova. Two geographical scales therefore sit side by side: the village’s specific location and the gulf shared by several municipalities. The area’s history also reaches far back: the territory of Alata was widely inhabited from the Neolithic period onward. This early settlement long predates the churches and the Château.
Getting there from Ajaccio
The RD 61 (Ajaccio-Route d’ALATA) provides access to Alata from Ajaccio.
Churches and monuments
The Church of Saint Pierre des Liens features Roman influences and a Pisan style, and probably dates from the late 16th or early 17th century. San Benedettu has its own parish church within the municipality of Alata. The Château de la Punta was built between 1886 and 1891 using stones from the Palais des Tuileries and was classified as a historic monument on 7 February 1977. The Chapelle funéraire Pozzo di Borgo is listed in its entirety as a historic monument under a decree dated 14 May 2012. The dates for the Château refer to two separate events: 1886 to 1891 for its construction, and 1977 for its classification.
Guided tour and Circuit N°1
On the “Visite du village d'Alata” tour, visitors are accompanied by an archaeologist from the Laboratoire régional d’archéologie (LRA). If you are planning this tour, check the dates and availability, as both may change. Circuit N°1 follows a different schedule: it connects Alata, Villanova, and Plage de Lava on a half- or full-day excursion. As route information may be updated, it is a good idea to check the route details before planning. For scheduling purposes, the circuit can be classified as a half- or full-day trip; the village tour has a different focus, with an archaeologist as your guide.
Local produce and crafts
Local agriculture includes several livestock farmers and producers of regional specialties such as cheese and Brocciu, as well as other producers and craftspeople. The local scene therefore extends beyond food to include crafts. At La Ferme d’Alata, visitors can discover regional products; tastings are also offered there. Product offerings and tasting arrangements may change. If you are considering a visit or a tasting, check in advance what is currently available.
