Serriera: Coast, Nature and Heritage
Accommodation in Serriera
Serriera sits on a hill dotted with olive trees, surrounded by forests and overlooking the Gulf of Porto. The village is part of the Corsica Regional Natural Park. Its hillside setting, forest and views of the gulf shape the village landscape; the protected coast and Serriera’s history add further dimensions to this picture.
Coastal Area and Nature
The protected Bussaghja coastal area covers 74.77 hectares in the municipalities of Serriera and Partinello. The endemic plant Seseli précoce grows on the sea rocks and cliffs of Bussaghja; it is listed on the Red List of threatened species. The cliffs also provide refuge for ospreys, pallid swifts and peregrine falcons. The natural environment therefore includes both a plant habitat and refuges for several bird species. Serriera shares the Evisa/Ota/Serriera municipal forest with Evisa and Ota; it consists of conifers. This distinguishes the forest from the olive trees on the hill. The Sabinetu territorial forest is also part of the wider natural area around Serriera. Corsican mouflon are found in the region as well.
Bussaglia Beach
Bussaglia Beach is used for swimming and recreation. It consists mainly of pebbles with some sand—useful information to help you picture the ground underfoot. The beach is accessible to people with reduced mobility and has a beach mat and a wheelchair. Please confirm before your trip that the equipment is available. Kayaks can be rented at the beach for trips to Girolata. Rental availability and operating conditions may vary seasonally; check in advance before planning this activity. This offers two different ways to plan your visit: swimming and relaxing at the beach, or renting a kayak with Girolata as your destination.
History around Serriera and Pinito
The Sainte-Marie church in Serriera was built in the early 20th century. Pinito was abandoned at the end of the 19th century. The ruins of houses and gardens bear witness to the former life of a community that moved to Serriera. These historical details span the period from the hamlet’s abandonment in the late 19th century to the construction of the church in the early 20th century. The path to Pinito starts in Serriera, passes through a forest and reaches the abandoned hamlet. If you plan to take the path, check current trail conditions before setting out.
Getting There and Practical Information
