In Cébazat, local history, walks, and culture can each be a focus of your trip. The Chemin de La Chute follows the Le Bédat to historic sites, while landmarks such as the Tour de l’Horloge offer insights into the history of the town. Parks and other trails add a scenic dimension; Sémaphore complements the townscape with cultural offerings ranging from theatre to music.

Walking along the Le Bédat

The Chemin de La Chute is a walking trail through the centre of Cébazat. It follows the Le Bédat river and passes historic sites and local cultural heritage. QR codes at the trail’s points of interest provide additional information. This lets you explore the marked stops along the way and use the trail as a route to discover different aspects of local history.

A pedestrian bridge built in June 2025 makes it possible to cross the river and continue along the Chemin de La Chute towards Rue du Bédat. This provides a clear reference point for the route. When planning your walk, you can check the trail conditions on site.

Buildings and traces of history

The Tour de l’Horloge, also known as the Porte des Farges, was built in the 15th century as part of Cébazat’s fortifications and restored in 1754. It still has a clock mechanism made by clockmaker Auguste Roure in 1899. The building, its restoration, and the clock mechanism thus point to different periods: the 15th-century fortifications were followed by the 18th-century restoration and, later, the 19th-century clock mechanism.

The Église de Cébazat is the oldest building in the town. A text from the 11th century attests to its existence; canons settled there at the beginning of the 12th century. Another historic landmark is the Lanterne des morts, which is listed in the inventory of Monuments historiques. Its dating to the 15th century is uncertain, and its origins are also disputed. These qualifications are part of how the building should be understood: its listing is established, but its date and origins are not equally certain.

Parks and green trails

Parc Pierre-Montgroux is a 6.7-hectare natural and landscaped park in the town centre, suitable for walks. The park also contains a shallow basin covering 6,230 square metres. The centrally located park thus offers both walking trails and this precisely measured feature; the two figures describe different elements of the site.

Domaine de la Prade has quiet, shady areas for walks. This offers a different focus from the centrally located Parc Pierre-Montgroux: here, shaded walking areas are specifically mentioned, while Parc Pierre-Montgroux is described as a natural and landscaped park in the centre. You can take these different features into account when choosing where to walk.

Cébazat also provides access to the 42-kilometre network of trails through the Massif des Côtes, a natural area designated as an Espace naturel sensible. The 42 kilometres refer to the network as a whole, not to a single route. The options therefore vary in scale, from a walk in the town park and the quiet areas of Domaine de la Prade to access to a more extensive trail network.

Culture at Sémaphore

Sémaphore is a cultural venue in Cébazat, offering theatre, circus, dance, and music. It also supports emerging artists through residencies and co-productions. Another musical highlight is the Sémaphore en chanson festival: 99.9 percent of its programme consists of French chanson. The festival programme may change, so check the latest festival information if you are planning a visit.

The cultural offerings are easy to distinguish: Sémaphore covers several performing arts as well as music, while Sémaphore en chanson is devoted almost entirely to French chanson. Together with the historic buildings and walking options, they offer a range of interests to shape your trip to Cébazat around.
