The sites range from the early 16th century to church buildings from the early 21st century. They differ not only in age, but also in what they reveal about the town: defensive architecture, architecture, religious art and everyday culture stand side by side.

Castle Complex and Palace

The castle of Kozova was a defensive structure that is now lost. The Potocki family built it at the beginning of the 16th century on a hill between two rivers. On the southern side of the castle complex, the Moshynski family had a palace—a small castle—built in the second half of the 18th century. This building has survived to this day as a historic monument. The two construction phases can therefore be clearly distinguished: a lost defensive structure from the early 16th century and a later, surviving palace.

Churches from Several Centuries

The first mention of the Church of the Assumption of Mary should be distinguished from its later reconstruction. The wooden church was first mentioned in 1699; in 1885, a stone building in the Classicist style was erected in its place. Teofil Kopystynskyi painted the church. The building thus brings together a longer church history with a specific phase of construction and art in the 19th century. Two further churches extend the chronology: the Church of St. Vladimir of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church was built in 1994, and the Church of St. Basil the Great of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in 2002. These dates refer to two additional churches, not to the Classicist building of 1885; their names also distinguish their respective church affiliations.

Museum and Arboretum

The Kozivskyi Museum of Local Lore is located in the center of Kozova. Its ethnographic collection presents peasant life in the late 19th century. The exhibits include old embroidery, icons, household items, historic photographs and old printed works. The museum complements the architectural history with everyday culture: textiles, religious objects and household items sit alongside visual and reading materials. Another point of interest is the Kozivskyi Arboretum “Lisova pisnia,” a dendrological park of local significance in Kozova. While the collection focuses on life in the late 19th century, the park represents a different area of interest from the historic buildings.

Cathedral and Folklore Festival

The Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul is also part of Kozova’s architectural history. Its construction took almost twelve years; the residents of Kozova financed it largely with their own funds. The cathedral thus adds two other perspectives to the dated churches: the duration of the construction process and the local population’s contribution to the financing. The “Koza-Fest” folklore festival was also part of the area’s cultural history. It was held in Kozova for at least three consecutive years and focused on agriculture and the arts.
