Myrhorod brings together cultural history and landscape: by the pond, a monument and a lakeside promenade commemorate Mykola Hohol; the spa park and birch grove offer a different perspective. Also worth a visit are the O. Slastion Local History Museum and a route that starts at Cossack Glory Square. If you are looking for a hotel in Myrhorod, you can plan your trip around the subjects that interest you most, while also taking your travel arrangements into account.

Hohol and Myrhorod Pond

The monument to Mykola Vasyliovych Hohol was ceremonially unveiled on September 18, 2008, on Hohol Street near the pond. The following year, a lakeside promenade was created around the pond: it was laid out on April 1, 2009, to mark Hohol’s 200th birthday. Sculptures of literary characters from his works were installed there.

The two sites have different focuses: the monument has its own historic unveiling date, while the sculptures along the promenade depict characters from Hohol’s works. Those interested in literature and the city’s history will find two distinct themes connected with the pond. The dates also help distinguish when these places of remembrance were established: the monument was added in 2008, followed by the lakeside promenade in 2009.

Spa Park, Architecture and the Birch Grove

A distinctive feature of the spa park is its entrance arch. It was built in 1935 to a design by architect Arkadii Langman. The birch grove adds a landscape perspective to this architectural history: established in 1934, it is part of the spa resort and a landscape conservation area of regional significance. These represent two different aspects side by side—the design of the park entrance and the protection of a planted grove.

Leisure activities also make use of the birch grove. In summer, the spa resort offers horseback rides and horse-drawn carriage rides along paths through the grove; in winter, there are sleigh rides. Availability may change. For your trip planning, the season is therefore the first thing to consider: the summer activities follow paths through the birch grove, while sleigh rides are offered in winter. Museum and Local History

The O. Slastion Local History Museum has been located at 2 Nesaleshnosti Street since 1996. Visitors can explore four halls with permanent exhibitions and two halls for temporary exhibitions. This layout distinguishes permanent displays from spaces for changing exhibitions. The museum offers guided tours and holds themed programs and exhibitions. Check the current arrangements for visiting before your visit.

The spa resort also has a history-themed scavenger hunt that includes a visit to the Folk Museum. The current schedule may vary, so check whether the activity takes place during your travel dates. The scavenger hunt and the Local History Museum’s exhibitions offer different ways to explore the area’s history: one focuses on a themed search, while the other centers on exhibitions and the museum program.

Cossack Glory Square and Getting There

Cossack Glory Square was laid out in 2007; a monument to the Cossacks of Myrhorod stands there. The square is also the starting point for the “Memorable Pages of the History of the Myrhorod Region” route, which passes through Myrhorod. The square thus combines a monument of its own with a specific starting point for this route.

Myrhorod is located on the Kyiv–Poltava–Kharkiv highway. The railway station is about two kilometers from the spa resort. When choosing a hotel, factor your mode of travel and the exact accommodation address into your plans.
