Nimnica: Spa, Reservoir and Trails

For a trip to Nimnica, there are several options: the public wellness centre at the spa, the climb up Holíš, and a cycling route by the reservoir. Local history and a recurring Christmas market add to these attractions.

Wellness at Kúpele Nimnica

The medical wellness centre at Kúpele Nimnica is open to the public. It has a swimming pool, as well as Finnish, herbal steam, salt steam and infrared saunas. Other facilities include a whirlpool, tepidariums, a Kneipp bath, tropical showers and an icefall. If you want to plan your stay mainly around the wellness facilities, you can choose between the swimming pool, different types of saunas and other water and heat facilities. Location above the Nosická Reservoir

Kúpele Nimnica lies at the foot of a spur of the Javorníky Mountains, directly above the Nosická Reservoir. Its natural healing spring provides highly mineralised, carbonated, bicarbonate-sodium and iodine-rich water. The location at the foot of the mountains and the composition of the spring water offer two specific points of interest for a wellness stay.

Hiking and cycling routes

The route up Holíš starts at the church, goes via Kúpele Nimnica to Holíš, and continues to the meadow below Holíš. The “Kúpele Nimnica–Malý Javorník” cycling route starts at the “Nimnica, kúpele” signpost by Kúpele Nimnica. It follows the red-marked Vážska cycling route, passing the reservoir and the harbour. At the next cycling-route junction, there is a hiking shelter, several rest areas, an outdoor fitness area and a drinking-water spring. The distinction is useful when choosing a route: for the climb, the route’s waypoints are key, while the cycling route can be identified by its markings and its course along the reservoir and harbour.

Local history and the church

A settlement from the La Tène period and a settlement of the Púchov culture from the Roman period were located in the area of today’s municipality of Nimnica. The “Kostol Fatimskej Panny Márie” church is a branch church in Nimnica. Thus, archaeological settlement sites from different periods and a church in the village are among the features that characterise Nimnica beyond its wellness facilities and routes.

Christmas market and travel planning

The “Nimnický vianočný jarmok” is a recurring Christmas market in Nimnica. The event on 13 December 2025 at 12:00 was held in conjunction with the third edition of a kapustnica cooking competition. If you want to plan your trip around a market date, check the date of the relevant edition.

Getting to the spa

Taking the train to Púchov is the easiest way to reach Kúpele Nimnica. Almost all express trains on the Bratislava–Žilina route stop there; from the station, continue by regional bus or taxi. Check the timetable for your travel date if you plan to use this connection.
