Kvašov lies in the northern part of the White Carpathians. The place’s defining names include Ostrá Hora and the Kvašov stream, also known as Suchlica. The area’s history stretches from Neolithic sites to a Slavic settlement; cycling and hiking routes add to the attractions for a stay.

Early Settlements and Archaeological Finds

People were already living at the Starice and Hôrka sites in the Kvašov area during the Neolithic period, between 3,000 and 4,000 years BC. Hradisko on Ostrá Hora was inhabited in the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. Objects found there include stone and bronze items, a bone awl, and a small clay figurine. A Slavic settlement existed below Ostrá Hora at Majer in the 8th and 9th centuries.

Ostrá Hora, the Stream, and Plant Life

Ostrá Hora rises to 492 m above sea level in a lower-lying part of Kvašov. The Kvašov stream flows through the area and is also known as Suchlica. Both names refer to the same watercourse: it is 8.4 km long, a right-bank tributary of the Lednica, and a fourth-order watercourse. Its source lies in the White Carpathians, in the Vršatecké bradlá subregion.

Plant life is also described through specific local information. Kvašov’s municipal development plan for 2015–2025 records a total of 189 higher plant species. Four are classified as rare or endangered: Convallaria majalis, Melittis melissophyllum, Ranunculus auricomus agg., and Scrophularia umbrosa. For the surrounding area, the same plan describes flower-rich meadows containing a mix of meadow, fringe, and woodland plants, as well as species that prefer dry, warm, or humid conditions. It also highlights the great diversity of invertebrates.

Cycling and Hiking

The municipal development plan for 2015–2025 lists a recommended and used cycling route through Kvašov. It connects to the marked Váh Cycling Route 002, which passes through Horovce. The plan also mentions the Horovce–Kvašov–Lednica–Dolná Breznica–Lednické Rovne circular route used by cyclists. For hikers, it describes a green-marked trail from Lednické Rovne over the heights around Ostrá Hora to Lednica. The cycling information therefore covers both a route through Kvašov and a circular route; for the hiking trail, the route over the heights around Ostrá Hora is the notable feature. Since the route information covers the period 2015–2025, check the current signs and route before setting out.

Chapel and Refreshments

At the center stands the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, built in 1973; a cross bearing Jesus Christ stands in front of it. A shelter with a fire pit and benches stands on the summit of Ostrá Hora. Check the shelter’s condition before visiting.

Kvašov’s 2015–2025 development plan describes an inn in a former school dating from the First Republic. The building was constructed entirely of adobe bricks, and its walls are up to one meter thick. If you would like to stop there, check in advance whether the inn is currently open.
