Puchov: Blue-Printing, Churches and City History
Accommodation in Puchov
If you plan your stay around cultural interests, Puchov offers several points of interest: church architecture, the history of blue-printing, archaeological periods and walks in Lesopark Lachovec. The buildings tell different stories from the 18th and 19th centuries while also preserving traces of older churches. At PĂșchovskĂĄ skala, the archaeological period spans from the Early Stone Age to Roman times. This lets you explore Puchov through the subjects that interest you most.
Churches and Architectural History
The Evangelical church on MoravskĂĄ ulica was built in 1880 on the site of an older church. The Neo-Gothic building houses a Renaissance altar dating from 1643. The building and altar therefore belong to different centuriesâa specific point of reference if you are interested in the different historical layers of the church.
The Roman Catholic church at NĂĄmestie slobody tells a different architectural story. It preserves the old nave of a Renaissance church built on the foundations of an older church. This predecessor church probably dates from the 13th century; the estimated date therefore refers to the older building. The Baroque-Classicist ĆœupnĂœ dom adds a building commissioned by Imrich MarczibĂĄnyi in the late 18th century to the areaâs ecclesiastical architecture.
Blue-Printing: Workshop History and Craft
The PĂșchov blue-printing workshop has been in Puchov since it moved from ZĂĄrieÄie in 1898. Two historical dates frame its story: its move to Puchov and the later designation of the site as a protected monument. In 1988, it was listed as an immovable national cultural monument under the name âBlue-Printing Workshop in Puchov.â The protected status applies to the site.
ModrĂœ Dvor also focuses on blue-printing, with a practical approach: its activities include craft days, and participants can learn skills in craft workshops set in the authentic surroundings of a dye works. If you would like to take part in a craft day, arrange this in advance. Visits to ModrĂœ Dvor are by prior appointment. The cultural points of interest therefore differ: the workshopâs history offers historical context, while the workshops focus on hands-on engagement with the craft.
Archaeology, Walks and Performances
Several cultures or cultural periods are represented at PĂșchovskĂĄ skala, spanning from the Early Stone Age to Roman times. This broad time span makes archaeology a subject in its own right, alongside the architectural history of the churches and ĆœupnĂœ dom. Those interested in earlier periods will find a connection here that is not limited to individual building dates.
For time outdoors, Lesopark Lachovec is a popular place for walks. The forest park is also associated with attending cultural performances at the new Ilonka amphitheatre. If you would like to plan a performance into your visit, check the current programme details. This way, walks and a possible cultural event can be considered different parts of your stay, without equating them with visits to historical sights.
