Temeš lies in the southern part of the Strážovská hornatina, in a deep, short left-hand side valley of the Belanka stream. The landscape is therefore shaped not only by the mountain region but also by its specific valley setting. When choosing a stay, hiking trails, cycling connections and the protected area offer different points of interest that you can weigh against one another based on the route or your cultural interests.

Hiking Trails Around Temeš

Marked hiking trail 8403 connects Temeš and Liešťany over 11.7 km. The also-marked trail 8403V is listed as 0.2 km long and connects Temešské sedlo with Temešská skala. The endpoints are different, so the two route lengths refer to different connections, not two length figures for the same route. The destinations can help you determine which trail description fits your itinerary.

Another hiking route through the Strážovské vrchy starts in Temeš and passes through Temešská skala, Malá Magura and Magura before ending in Bojnice. The Temeš–Malá Magura–Bojnice route has a total elevation difference of 822 m. The sequence of places describes the route; the elevation difference adds a separate planning measure to the distance figures.

Cycling and Nature

The Bojnický cyklookruh runs from Čavoj through Temeš and onward to Nevidzany. The municipality’s 2021 annual report also mentions cycling routes that pass through Temeš. Before setting out, check locally what their routes are like for your ride.

The Temešská skala protected area lies within the cadastral territories of Temeš and Čavoj and is subject to the fifth level of protection. The European protected area also includes land above the municipality of Čavoj. The long-leaved groundsel, subspecies Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica, occurs there: a rare plant of European importance under EU law, found at only a few known sites in Slovakia.

Land use is also part of the landscape. Non-agricultural areas account for 68% of the municipality’s territory; forest areas make up 62% of this non-agricultural category. The reference base matters here: the 62% refers to the non-agricultural share, not to the entire municipal area.

Attractions and Culture

The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes was built in 1926 in a retarded late Classicist style. It has a single nave, a rectangular floor plan and a projecting tower. “Single nave” describes a building with one nave; the other features specify the floor plan and tower design. If you are interested in local architectural history, the chapel offers a specific point of connection.

The Košarinka folk group was founded in 1999; its repertoire includes folk plays, customs, songs and dances. This distinguishes its cultural focus from that of the chapel: the chapel is centered on its architectural form, while Košarinka is focused on folklore.
