Discover Trenčín
Accommodation in Trenčín
Trenčín brings together a range of interests for a stay: castle and city history, Lesopark Brezina with paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and a boat trip on the Váh. Its attractions offer different ways to discover the city: the castle reflects its history, the Neological Synagogue tells the story of the local Jewish community, and the Mestská veža combines a historic gateway function with panoramic views. When planning your visit, you can then decide whether to focus more on culture, forest paths or a trip on the water.
Trenčín Castle and Roman traces
The stone fortress of Trenčín Castle was built in the 11th century. At the castle, you can visit exhibition rooms and permanent exhibitions of the Trenčianske múzeum v Trenčíne about the history of the castle and the entire region. Before your visit, check the museum’s current information about its permanent exhibitions.
The Roman inscription is located on the castle rock. It is considered the most important authentic written evidence preserved at its original site of the presence of Roman troops in this area in the 2nd century AD. Trenčín thus brings together a written connection to Roman times and the stone fortress built in the 11th century as distinct historical points of interest.
City history and views
The Neological Synagogue is an exceptional architectural work and material evidence of the history of the local Jewish community. It was declared a national cultural monument in 1963 because of its heritage value. Its significance lies both in its architecture and in the history the building bears witness to.
The Mestská veža was probably built at the beginning of the 15th century as part of the city fortifications, and from the High Middle Ages to the present day it has served as the southern entrance to Mierové námestie. From its circular viewing platform, you can look in all directions over historic buildings and nearby attractions, including the Piaristický kostol and the well-known Jewish synagogue. The Mestská veža thus combines its role in the city layout with panoramic views of the city’s buildings.
Paths in Lesopark Brezina
Lesopark Brezina covers 212.68 hectares and lies close to the centre of Trenčín. Its paths are designated for different uses: some are exclusively for pedestrians, some exclusively for cyclists, and others are shared. When planning your time in the park, you can take this distinction into account rather than assuming that all paths are used in the same way.
The Divotraily Trenčín are designed for mountain bikes: narrow forest trails with varying difficulty levels. The designated difficulty level is a factor to consider when choosing a trail. Another way to explore the park is the educational trail “Vznik a vývoj lesa” (“The Origin and Development of the Forest”). It is 1,500 metres long, has an elevation difference of 50 metres and includes 12 information panels. These specific details about its length, elevation difference and panels give you an idea of what to expect from the educational trail; the Divotraily, by contrast, are described as mountain bike trails with varying difficulty levels.
Trenčín from the Váh
A boat trip on the Váh aboard the “Dominik” offers views of Trenčín and the surrounding area. Nautical activities include, for example, instructions on tying various sailor’s knots. The standard circular route “Od elektrárne po stavidlá” takes about an hour. If you plan to take this trip, check before travelling whether the route is currently available. The approximate duration helps you plan for the trip, while the castle, city views and different paths in Brezina offer other ways to spend your stay.
