Nová Lehota lies in the Považský Inovec Mountains. Natural monuments, buildings with their own local history and the SKI Bezovec ski area shape different sides of this destination. If you are looking for hotels in Nová Lehota, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay: nature, local history, winter sports or trails through the landscape.

Natural monuments and protected landscapes

Designated a natural monument in 1983, Mokvavý prameň covers 20,989 m² and is subject to the fourth level of protection. It is considered an easily accessible study site and an important feature shaping the landscape. Here, protected status goes hand in hand with a distinctive role in the landscape.

Another protected area is Dubový vŕšok, in the cadastral area of Nová Lehota. It was designated in 1993 and is also subject to the fourth level of protection. The protected area is a valuable section of oligotrophic, acidic oak forest on the crystalline bedrock of the Považský Inovec. Characteristic indicator plants are among the features of this habitat. Dastínska kyselka is an alkaline mineral spring also associated with Nová Lehota.

The natural features are described in different ways: Mokvavý prameň is notable as a study site and for its effect on the landscape, alongside its protected status; Dubový vŕšok is a described oak forest habitat and is characterised by its plant life. These offer different starting points if nature is what draws you to this destination.

Church, chapel and local history

The Evangelical church in Nová Lehota is a single-nave Neo-Romanesque building dating from 1866. Beside it stands a wooden bell tower with an open structure and a pyramidal roof. The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua is also single-nave; it dates from 1903. These three architectural details offer different points of interest, without implying that they share a construction period.

The first written record of Nová Lehota dates to 1348, when it was part of the Tematín estate. A marble war memorial in the village square bears the names of eighteen people who fought and died in the two world wars. Nová Lehota also appears as the village of Horná Dolná in the TV series “Horná Dolná.”

Winter sports and trails from Bezovec

The SKI Bezovec ski area is located in Nová Lehota. It has four ski lifts and a total of 1.6 kilometres of ski slopes. The area also offers night skiing on 300 metres of illuminated slopes. Seasonal availability may vary, so check the ski area information before planning your trip around it.

Hiking and cycling are also represented by specific routes. A marked blue hiking trail leads from the Bezovec chalet area near Nová Lehota to Tematín Castle, passing through meadows and forest. If you plan to take this route, check current trail conditions in advance, as they may change. The Via Považský Inovec cycling route descends to Nová Lehota and then climbs to the saddle below Bezovec. This gives you two different route descriptions to compare: a hike to the castle and a cycling route that descends to Nová Lehota before climbing again.
