Moravské Lieskové is a destination for travelers who want to include regional culture, architecture and nature education in their travel plans. If you are looking for a hotel in Moravské Lieskové, you can first consider whether you are more interested in church architecture and folk culture, nature and environmental education, or local food. These themes offer different points of focus and help you decide what kind of stay you would like.

Culture and architectural history

The Museum of Folk Creativity in Moravské Lieskové displays folk clothing, traditional costumes, tools and written mementos. Its collection brings together objects and written records, exploring different aspects of folk creativity.

The architectural history of the Evangelical church spans several stages: it was built in 1786 without a tower. The organ was added during the tenure of pastor J. Lacka, and the tower was added in 1892. The Catholic church was originally built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. The present-day Catholic church is Romanesque Revival and was consecrated in 1912; only part of the original church’s tower perimeter wall remains. Together, the two churches tell distinct architectural stories: the Evangelical church developed over several stages, while the Catholic church changed from its original Gothic form to its present-day Romanesque Revival style.

A historic building in the center of the village also tells the story of an earlier use: it was once a chair house. The Evangelical church later bought the building and used it as a rectory. Local cultural heritage also includes reconstructed folk architecture buildings, Kopanitsa folk architecture, and water-powered log mills.

The women’s folk costume of Moravské Lieskové developed from clothing originally made entirely of hemp. Its components include a rubáč, kasánka, apron, sleeves, bonnet and boots. The local brass band tradition has been documented since 1908. Traditional dress, music and folk architecture add further cultural themes to the churches’ architectural history.

Landscape and nature

Most of the area of Moravské Lieskové lies within the Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Biele Karpaty). A particular botanical feature is the flower-rich meadows above the settlement of Šance, where several orchid species grow. Large populations of grass-leaved iris (Iris graminea) and the rare southern adder’s-tongue (Ophioglossum vulgatum) also grow there. For travelers interested in plants and landscapes as well as culture, this natural setting offers a distinct focus.

Nature education and local food

ŽiTo v SÝPKE is an educational and community center where nature, art and the exchange of knowledge come together. The nature garden offers the chance to pick fresh fruit, explore a straw-bale maze and relax in a therapeutic garden. School classes and groups can take part in hands-on programs that combine nature-based activities with learning new skills. School programs include kneading dough together and baking bread snakes over a fire. Environmental education programs take place both inside the center and in the nature garden and orchard. The offerings therefore include different ways to learn: practical activities, experiences in nature and the exchange of knowledge.

TRH Sýpka connects local food and the work of local producers with community gatherings. Visitors can sample homemade specialties and talk with farmers, gardeners and craftspeople. This adds a culinary dimension to the cultural and nature-related themes, with both tasting and learning about local production playing a part.
