For a stay in Lubina, cultural history, landscape and trails offer different areas of focus. Specific topics include a listed rectory, biographical connections to people from Lubina, and named trails linked to Veľká Javorina. Route details, the landscape description and seasonal information give you several ways to plan your trip according to your own interests.

Cultural History and Biographies

The new rectory next to the Evangelical church was built in 1909 under the direction of architect Milan Harminc, at the same time as the church; today it is a cultural monument. Jozef Ľudovít Holuby was born in Lubina and was an Evangelical pastor as well as a world-renowned botanist. The Rodný dom kapitána Miloša Uhra is associated with Miloš Uher (1914–1945), commander of the Hurban partisan unit.

Trails and Winter Activities

Road II/581 connects Lubina with Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Stará Turá. The named trails differ considerably in length and type of use: the Chodník kpt. Miloša Uhra is an 11.8-kilometre hiking trail to Veľká Javorina. The Básnická stezka, established together with Kunovice, is more than 60 kilometres long, starts at Javorina and can be used on foot or by bicycle. In terms of scale, this means a route of 11.8 kilometres compared with one of more than 60 kilometres; cycling is explicitly mentioned for the Básnická stezka.

The ski area on Veľká Javorina is located at an altitude of 905 metres above sea level. The cross-country ski trails in the area around Veľká Javorina are connected to the Moravian side and to Stará Myjava. The ski area operates seasonally; trail grooming and snow conditions vary by season. Check the conditions before planning if you would like to include winter sports.

Landscape and Local Life

Lubina’s landscape is shaped by agriculture and has a dispersed settlement pattern. It includes meadows, pastures and arable land, as well as preserved fruit trees, shrubs and orchards featuring old, rare varieties of service trees, pears, apples and plums. FarmaPARK Lubina in the Barina district gives visitors the chance to interact directly with animals of miniature breeds. Check before travelling whether it is open to visitors.

The Lubina dialect dictionary contains more than 2,700 dialect words. It also includes registers of local field names, descriptions of how traditional dishes are prepared, accounts of memories, records of old wedding songs and inherited nicknames. Its subject matter therefore ranges from field names and food to songs and linguistic traditions.

At the annual Slávnosti bratstva Čechov a Slovákov on Veľká Javorina, folk music groups, folklore ensembles and country groups perform from both sides of the border. The festivities are usually centred around the Holubyho chata. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the dates and programme in advance; details may change.
