Sedmerovec lies in the Ilavské podolie at the foot of the White Carpathians. Religious buildings and recurring church events shape the cultural life of the village. A special point of interest is Pominovec: this hamlet lies within Sedmerovec’s cadastral area, in the middle of fields between Bolešov and Pruské. There stands a Romanesque manor church dating from the 12th century, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The church has been listed as a national cultural monument since 7 November 1963. In Pominovec, the medieval history of the building and its dedication come together in a clearly defined visitor attraction.

The Church of Pominovec

The church lies about 1.5 kilometres southeast of Sedmerovec. A field road branches off the main road 507 between Nemšová and Pruské and leads to it. The Pominovec site is open to visitors; access to the church interior can be arranged in advance. When planning your visit, it is important to distinguish between visiting the site and going inside the church. The church is now used for religious ceremonies only rarely.

Pilgrimage and church events

A recurring event in Pominovec is the traditional “Cyklopúť Pominovec” cycling pilgrimage. It has been held annually on the last Sunday in August since 2004. The pilgrimage includes a Holy Mass, a symbolic blessing of bicycles and the distribution of Saint Christopher stickers to pilgrims. The event brings together religious observance and cycling tradition. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the date for the specific year in advance.

Churches and chapels in Sedmerovec

Sedmerovec itself has a village church and a centrally located chapel, both dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The village church was consecrated on 30 June 2002 and partially renovated in 2022. The roof covering was renewed and a new façade was installed. The central Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was consecrated in 1927. Every year, a solemn patronal Mass is held there on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The village church and the chapel are two separate buildings: the 2022 renovation applies to the church, while the 1927 consecration and annual patronal Mass relate to the chapel.

Above Sedmerovec, on Líščia, stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows. It was consecrated on 15 September 1997. A Holy Mass is usually celebrated there on 15 September for the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. Worshippers also gather at the chapel to pray the rosary, especially in May. The annual calendar thus includes the cycling pilgrimage on the last Sunday in August, the Mass usually celebrated on Líščia on 15 September, and the rosary devotion observed especially in May.
