Pruské: architectural history and a place to stay

Pruské brings together several cultural and historical landmarks: a Renaissance manor house, the Franciscan church and monastery, the Church of St. Peter and Paul, and protected yew trees in the parish garden. The Historic Park and Route 07 are additional topics to consider when planning your trip. During your stay, you can choose from architectural history, sacred art, protected nature and a specific route option.

Renaissance manor house and park

The Renaissance manor house was built at the end of the 16th century and is set in an extensive English-style park. As the building is used as a school, it can currently only be viewed from the outside. Check the access arrangements again before your trip.

Franciscan church and other sacred buildings

The Franciscan church and monastery in Pruské were built in 1642; the church’s entrance portal also dates from that year. Hugolín Gavlovič is buried in the crypt of the Franciscan church. The year links the building and its portal, while the crypt provides a biographical connection: the church brings architectural history and literary heritage together.

The Church of St. Peter and Paul in Pruské was consecrated in 1780. Its main altarpiece is by F. A. Maulbertsch; it also has an original Baroque organ and case, made by the Slovak organ builder Juraj Pažický from Rajec. The two furnishings highlight different aspects: painting and organ building.

By comparison, the Franciscan church, with its construction date of 1642 and the burial place of Hugolín Gavlovič, offers a different point of interest from St. Peter and Paul, with its 1780 consecration, altarpiece and organ. This makes it possible to distinguish between the two churches by their respective histories and furnishings.

Protected green spaces

Three common yew trees stand in the parish garden in Pruské; they are estimated to be 700 years old. They are protected cultural monuments. The Historic Park of Pruské is a national cultural monument and covers 4.2 hectares. These two protected heritage sites are on different scales: the group of yew trees in the parish garden and the larger park, whose area is specified.

Route 07 and the 2026 festival

Route 07 starts at a bus stop in the center of Pruské and runs via Vršatské Podhradie, Vršatec and Chmelová to Červený Kameň. It is rated moderate and is estimated to take around 4 hours and 30 minutes. This duration is a guide, not a guaranteed walking time. The difficulty rating and estimated time answer different planning questions: the first describes the level of difficulty, while the second indicates the approximate time required. If you include the route in your stay, you can use both details to plan accordingly.

In a notice from 2026, the municipality of Pruské announced Gavlovičovo Pruské as the festival’s 59th edition.
