Dulov is located in the Považie region, in the Ilava Basin and on the right bank of the Váh. When looking for hotels in Dulov, the area offers several distinct themes: waterways and landscape, a part of a protected landscape area, church architecture and local traditions. This lets you choose your destination based on the aspects that matter to your stay.

Landscape between the Váh and the White Carpathians

The Tovarský potok, also known as the Tuchynská rieka, flows around Dulov from the west. The Váh, Slovakia’s longest river, forms a small boundary along the territory of Dulov. The northwestern hilly area consists of small rocky outcrops of Mesozoic rock. In addition, the northwestern part of the cadastral area extends into the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area.

Roe deer and wild boar live in Dulov’s forests; in recent years, mouflons have also appeared. These details describe both the woodland landscape and the distinctive location of the northwestern part of the area. The Sigôtka ponds are used for sport fishing and are managed according to local fishing regulations. If you are interested in sport fishing, take these regulations into account when planning. The ponds were created through gravel extraction on land belonging to the Urbár community for the construction of a motorway.

Church, bell towers and local history

The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows was consecrated on 23 September 2000. Its tower is 17 metres high, and the stained-glass windows depict the Stations of the Cross. The church’s notable details therefore include its precise date, the tower’s height and the windows’ subject matter.

The bell tower in the Nová Ves district of Dulov was built in 1922; it originally had an Art Nouveau façade. The newer bell tower in Dulov was built in 1941–1942 as a masonry, prismatic structure of a similar type. Historically, Dulov was a typical village of the lower nobility and belonged to several noble families.

Festivals and running tradition

A tradition of two festivals developed in Dulov. The patronal feast is dedicated to the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and is associated with harvest festivals. Another festival is dedicated to the cross at Gálovica, which was blessed on 14 September, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The Dulov Harvest Festival celebrates the successful completion of the harvest and helps preserve Slovak traditions.

The Beh okolo Dulova race is also part of the local history. Its unchanged route runs through the streets of Dulov and along the adjacent II/507 road. The competition dates back to 1971 and is one of Slovakia’s oldest running competitions. The landscape, architectural history, festivals and running tradition offer different ways to get to know Dulov as a travel destination.
