Goldmorawitz (Zlaté Moravce) lies at the confluence of the Žitava and the Hostiansky potok stream, also known as Zlatnianka. The town is situated at the meeting point of three geological and geomorphological units: Tribeč, Pohronský Inovec and the Pannonian Basin, represented here by the Danubian Lowland. The surviving section of the former manor park is now used as a town park for recreation.

Museum and architectural history

The regional history museum in Zlaté Moravce focuses in particular on the upper Požitavie region and is housed in the Baroque Migazzi Manor House. On 2 October 1963, the manor house was added to the list of National Cultural Monuments of the Slovak Republic. The Rod Migazzi exhibition explores the history of the noble family. It includes a tea room installation featuring objects that belonged to and were used by members of the Migazzi family. A salon belonging to the Paluškov family is furnished with 18th-century Baroque marquetry furniture. The Rod Migazzi exhibition opened to visitors in 2023; check current access arrangements before your visit.

Other buildings also reflect different periods. The Neoclassical Church of St Michael the Archangel dates from 1785 and was remodelled in 1823. The Janko Kráľ Memorial House was built in the first half of the 19th century; the poet Janko Kráľ lived there from 1862 until his death. The Migazzi family mausoleum was built in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1887, is listed in the central register of cultural monuments and contains black marble sarcophagi. In the courtyard of Migazzi Manor House, a preserved stone fountain structure is also presented as a historic feature of the town.

Nature trail and activities

The Zlaté Moravce nature trail leads from the bus station through the town centre to Kalvária Hill and the Chapel of St Anne. This self-guided linear walking route can be followed in either direction and is accessible year-round. It is 6 kilometres long and takes about 2.5 hours; along the route there are 13 stops and an introductory information board. This makes it easy to factor the walking time into your day’s itinerary.

Cycling is another option: the area around Zlaté Moravce offers good conditions for cycle tourism. There is a bicycle parking facility on the banks of the Žitava; check the current operating conditions before using it. The local tourist association organises hiking and cycling tours almost all year round.

Seasonal schedules are also important for other activities. The summer outdoor swimming pool has a 50-metre pool and two small children’s pools. The winter stadium on Továrenská Street is open during the season and is used for recreational skating and ice hockey games. Check the seasonal schedule before visiting. TJ Sokol offers organised individual sport climbing on an artificial climbing wall; check availability in advance.

Climbing competitions for the Slovak Cup and the Slovak Junior Championships are held annually. If you would like to plan your trip around a competition, check the event dates in advance.

Plan your hotel stay

When looking for a hotel in Goldmorawitz, consider your travel dates alongside your personal interests: cultural attractions and the year-round nature trail are available alongside seasonal sports activities. If swimming or ice skating is a priority, the relevant seasonal schedules are key. Before finalising your plans, also check current access to the exhibition and the dates of events and organised activities.
