Diakovce brings together geothermal water, a cycling route between Ĺ aÄľa and Diakovce, Romanesque architectural history and a Calvary, offering visitors a range of things to explore. When planning your stay, first consider whether you want to focus on a seasonal thermal spa visit, a ride along a designated route, or architecture and local history. Specific information about access and the route makes the differences clear.

Thermal Water and Wellness

The geothermal water at the AVA Thermalpark Diakovce thermal spa reaches temperatures of up to 39°C. During the summer season, you can visit the thermal spa daily during opening hours, weather permitting. Check the opening hours and any weather-related changes before you travel. The wellness area at AVA Thermalpark includes saunas, an ice chamber, whirlpools and relaxation rooms.

The figure “up to 39°C” refers to the maximum temperature of the geothermal water and is not a general temperature guarantee for every visit. Together with the various features of the wellness area, it gives a clear picture of Diakovce’s thermal attractions. The season, weather and opening hours remain key to planning your visit.

The Šaľa–Diakovce Cycling Route

The Šaľa–Diakovce cycling route was officially opened on June 2, 2026, and is intended for cycling. It is 1,565 metres long, starts on Diakovská Street in Šaľa and ends at a petrol station in Diakovce. This clearly identifies both the route between the two towns and its endpoints.

Photoluminescent stones are integrated into the route’s surface. In the dark, they help cyclists find their way and improve safety. The length and endpoints help you assess this cycling option; the stones add a distinctive aid to navigating in the dark.

Romanesque Church and Calvary

The late Romanesque Benedictine Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie) was consecrated in 1228. The building has three naves, three eastern apses arranged in a row and two western towers. “Three naves” describes the division of the interior into three sections; together with the apses to the east and the towers to the west, this helps you understand the building’s layout.

The church can be visited during services or by arrangement with the parish administrator. You should therefore arrange a visit in advance if you plan to go outside service times. The Calvary stands on a small artificial hill near the Romanesque former Benedictine abbey church and is a prominent landmark.

The Calvary next to the Catholic church was built in 1822. Under parish priest Samu Varghu, a new Calvary was built with donated funds and consecrated on November 7, 1909. The church and the Calvary offer different points of interest for a visit: the church’s layout and consecration year, and the Calvary’s location and historical details.

Plan Your Visit

When choosing where to stay in Diakovce, first decide what you want to focus on: the thermal spa, cycling route or architectural history. Each calls for different planning. For the thermal spa, the summer season, weather and opening hours matter; visits to the church depend on service times or a prior arrangement. The route’s length and endpoints provide useful orientation for cyclists.
