Trnovec Nad Váhom combines its connection to the Váh River with cultural heritage, a protected natural area and named cycling routes. The town lies on the left-bank levee of the Váh River in the eastern part of the Danubian Lowland. Its riverside setting, history and routes offer different starting points for planning your trip.

Riverside Setting and Protected Area

The Trnovecké mŕtve rameno Váhu protected area covers 6.58 hectares. It includes softwood floodplain forests of willows and poplars, as well as wetland communities. The setting on the Váh places Trnovec within the landscape, while the area’s size and habitats describe a specific natural environment. An oak tree in Trnovec Nad Váhom is 18.5 metres tall. Its estimated age is 120 years, and its trunk circumference is 319 centimetres. Alongside the river and protected area, these details give you another specific point of reference for the town’s landscape character.

Cultural Heritage and Historical Traces

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord (Kostol Premenenia Pána) was built in 1725 at the instigation of the then landowner Štefan Hunyadi. Its bell tower houses a bell dating from 1911. Designed in the Historicist style, it is a movable national cultural monument; it was designated for heritage protection in 2022. A rescue excavation in 1975 uncovered three graves of the Nitra culture in Trnovec Nad Váhom. These examples provide different historical reference points: an 18th-century church, a cultural monument from the early 20th century, and archaeological finds from a later excavation. Together, specific buildings, an individual object and archaeological traces help place the destination’s historical character in context.

Cycling Routes and Rail

The 41.5-kilometre, easy leisure route Okolo Váhu runs via Selice and Trnovec Nad Váhom before returning to Šaľa. Its length, difficulty and route offer a specific framework if you would like to include a bike ride in your trip plans. The Vážska cyklomagistrála passes beneath the railway bridge between Šaľa and Trnovec Nad Váhom. At 445.790 metres, this bridge is the longest in the ŽSR network. While Okolo Váhu gives you a route length and a course through several towns, the Vážska cyklomagistrála’s notable landmark is the bridge. The Bratislava–Nové Zámky railway line passes through Trnovec Nad Váhom, adding to the town’s rail connections.
